I heard they cut down a bunch of old trees along the route to move that thing. That would have hacked me off....

Cool Pics... But I hate to think, they took Old Trees to make way for it.

I had to look that up Yea 400 trees were cut down.

I was thinking these were old photos in Lancaster when they moved the shuttle. But they are the ones where it was moved for the final time.

It would have been more cost efficient to cut or remove the wing panels. It's not like it was to fly again. [B)]
Makes one wonder what those involved were thinking was more important. OBVIOUSLY... It wasn't cost.

So they cut 400 trees down, big deal. Hell the farmers and county around here cut 400 trees down per section last year. We have lost tons of habitat around here in the last three years. Hey, gotta get another row of corn in there.

Not to worry. I checked my science book, and it turns out trees grow back.

    Whew! Crisis averted. [8D]

They do grow back - in considerable time, yes. So you would be fine with them cutting down 2 of your 4 total trees? That's okay though, your front yard didn't need trees anyway....

My property was open field 40 years ago. It is now trees up to 60+ feet tall. They grow back a lot faster that folks imagine. In three to five years the area will again have trees. I agree it is sad old healthy trees got cut down but life goes on. They can transplant 10-12 foot trees to replace the lost ones and before you know it they will be nice looking additions to the neighborhood.

I think you miss my point. I manage over 12 million acres of property, with millions of trees, have advanced degrees in forestry, wildlife, and biology, so I think I know a little about how trees grow. I cut trees on my property regularly - even yesterday, prior to a prescribed burn. However, I had to live in town a short few years of my life, and had someone come cut my only big trees in my front yard, on my property and not on ROW, to move something down the street, I wouldn't have been too happy. Perhaps you bought the house because of those old trees, so they or any like them, won't be back In 10 years. They will grow back, but I won't live another 40 to see them....
