North Dakota and wacky speed limits

I never really noticed before since I have not ventured too far off main highways in ND but thank goodness they do not run speed traps!

On thier secondary roads speed limits change often and quick with little or no warning.

Examples,

Going from a 2 lane to 4 lane road, speed limit is 65, at change to 4 lane it drops to 50 with no advance warning then within 200 yards up to 70, wierd.

Coming into towns, on two lane road speed is 65, a sign says Speed Limit 45 Ahead, go 100 yards and it is 45 and 100 yards past that it slams down to 25! If you are not payin attention a gradual slowdown to the 45 limit will get you nailed in the 25 limit that is 100 yards past the first 45 sign.

Other areas, wide open country with roads as straight and flat as can be for miles, limit 65 when all of a sudden it goes to 50 with no advance warning and lasts maybe 1/4 mile for an intersection.

Construction zones, frustrating because the limit is up and down throughout the construction, 65, 60, 40 35 depending if a worker is nearby, best to set cruise on 40 then trying to stay at the ever changing limits!!

This would be a rich state if they planted Revenue Rangers (speed cops) at these places. I can't believe that I did not see one ticket writer the entire 2 days I was in ND! Thank God too because a couple of those quick changes tripped me up because the signage is terrible. [:o)][:I]

First time I drove in the Northern Territory I was on roads that had no speed limits. I certainly did not drive stupid fast (rental car would not anyway) but I was kinda disappointed when I got back near humpty-do and a limit was imposed. The next time I was there, those same roads had speed limits.

Used to be the highways (before interstates I mean) went through every one stop light town along the way. Speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down...
