You can't judge a book by its cover, but that doesn't mean you can't do a report on it.

Hey, why doesn't GB offer hosting services for posting pics? You'd think that would be a big help to the sellers (as well as over here on the forums).

We offer picture hosting for the auction site but there is nothing similar for the forums. Most ISPs give you a free home page with 10 or 20 megs of disk space. You can host your pictures there.

Once you've uploaded your picture use the following line in your post.
Don't worry about the bullet with your name on it, worry about the fragmentation grenade addressed 'To Occupant'.

The trouble with using free sites is that they do go out of business from time to time. I had a fairly large web site built up on Disney's Go.com, and darned if they didn't suddenly go belly up. Usually that means that you lose everything unless you have it backed up on your computer. For the computer nerds amongst us, if you need a backup copy of your web site, by the way, there is a great free utility called Superbot you can get from places like download.com that will download the entire contents of a web site, including the files in sub-folders, to your computer, so you can save the site and publish it elsewhere if you ever have to.

It does work well and is simple to use, and loads a lot faster than that stupid Netscape site I've been saddled with. As long as you keep deleting pictures when you don't need them anymore, 30 pics should be plenty for a lot of us sellers to use for auctions. Thanks for the tip.

I don't get it?
As I said before, I setup a site EXCUSIVELY for picture hosting.
Load as many as you want...
Guess my post must be comin' up invisible or something...

I tried your guest/guest site too, and it's very handy. I may need something a little bigger than a 24k limit from time to time, is all. Thanks a lot for the effort.

I believe I set the limit to 2.4m not 24k!
You'll be hard pressed to find a 2.4m jpeg!

You can also make files smaller by choosing the amount of compression for your JPEGS, usually by selecting high, medium, or low, or some such thing. Medium is usually plenty good enough.
Also, by first reducing the number of colors in your pictures to 256 instead of 16 million, they will become smaller files, so that when you save them as jpegs they will be smaller still.
Software like PhotoShop even has a command "Save for web" which automates the whole process.
