What cars do LEOs drive?

I am curious because when i left Maryland in 1999, I started seeing people get pulled over by more than just Caprice Classics and Crown Vics. I saw Chevy Berattas, Cavaliers, even a Van, unmarked and pulled someone over. My brother says that now they even drive Hondas.

Any of your departments start this?

The department I worked for drove Ford Explorers with one Epedition.

I think you're gonna be seeing alot more Chevy Impalas in the future.

There is a department in CO that drives Audis(sp?) and another out West that uses Dodge Durangos (the truck).

Here in northern Michigan they use Blazers or Suberbins.

Farther down state one sharif has a hummer and the City police in my hometown have a 72 corvette.

NIKLASL, here in communist MD the police use all types of confiscated and inconspicuous vehicles. In Salisbury, they have, explorers, expeditions, tahoes, crown vics, caprice's, taurus's, corsicas, monte carlo's, and several others. They finally figured out that people like me, got used to the front end of the standard cars and was able to see them far enough down the road to reduce my speed before the radar or laser was effective. They are better for undercover work also.

The last year I was driving the New York State troopers had a few marked and unmarked Firebirds.

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

They use whatever cars the department has illegally seized, through fourth and fifth amendment violations.

My dept uses Crown Vics for patrol. But we also have a '99 Suburban for Traffic, '02 Tahoe for Patrol Supervisor, and an '01 Expedition for SWAT. Our motorcyle guys ride Harley Road Kings that look awesome! The detectives drive plain Vics and the narc guys have just about everything and anything.

I heard where the Police in Concord N.C. have a program set up with NASCAR teams where the teams buy a patrol car and set it up with all the paint schemes amd stickers like the Winston cup cars. I think it's a cool idea, imagine getting pulled over by little E's car, or seeing a pursuit involiving the Viagra car....

Woodbridge Twp, NJ has a black & white Corvette with a lite bar on top. It draws a lot of attention, and not many people try to outrun it.

I've been pulled over by Caprice Classics, Crown Vics, Camaros, Impalas, and even a mini-van just inside the limits of a small town near Spirit Lake, Iowa. The kid driving the mini-van couldn't have been a day over 20.

In northern Wis. where my parents live, the state boys use a Camaro.
Where I lived in Texas the city cops had a couple of Crown Vics. for in town, some Mustangs for out on the edges of town, and a Jeep CJ that they cruised the parks with.

At my PD, the majority are Crown Vics. Since we have a take-home program and A LOT of cars, the cars seem to hold up better, so we still have some older Caprice Classics. (Great cars)

We also have one Ford 4WD pickup, one Chevy Tahoe, one van for hauling McGruff around in, and a number of seizure vehicles. One day on a stakeout assignment, I got to drive a HOT little Chevy pickup that once belonged to a drug dealer. I liked it.

PS: Contrary to sometimes public opinion, not all seizures are illegal. In our area, it is a long difficult process, and you had better be right and have all the T's crossed and the I's dotted or you don't get it.

The DPS drives Crown Vics and an occasional Camaro.
