This is a quiz made by Einstein in the last century. Ninety-eight percent of people will not figure it out. There are five different houses in five different colors. In each house lives a different person with a different nationality. These five people drink a certain drink, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same cigar, or drink the same drink. The question is...who owns the fish? The Brit lives in the red house. The Swede keeps dogs as pets. The Dane drinks tea.The green house is on the left of the white house. The green house owner drinks coffee. The person who smokes Pall Malls rears birds. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills. The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk. The Norwegian lives in the first house. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats. The man who keeps horses lives next to the one who smokes Dunhills. The owner that smokes Blue Master drinks beer. The German Smokes Prince. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. And, the man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

People Magazine ran a riddle along these lines some years ago that the secretaries where I worked were puzzling over. It used television shows, time slots, and guests, but was organized the same. The people that supplied the puzzle claimed that you had to be a genius to figure it out and it would take 30 days minimum time to do so. I drew a checkerboard matrix, filled in the blanks, and took it to work with me the next morning. My conclusion was not that I was a genius, but that the puzzle freaks who supplied it to People Magazine were mistaken.
