Just curious what all you LEO's have as a department issed duty weapon and what's your backup.

I've seen everything from GLocks to HK's and Rugers. What do you have?

Duty weapon is a Glock 31 .357 Sig with Speer Gold Dot 125 grain HP. Backup is a Glock 33 .357 Sig loaded with same. I like the fact that my full sized Glock 31 mags will fit in the Glock 33.

My department doesn't issue our duty weapons, so we carry pretty much whatever we want. The department does give us an extra $100 per month for us to purchase guns, supplies, etc. And they do provide our ammo, shotguns, and rifles.

Duty gun is dept-issued SIG P229, .40 caliber with night sights and short trigger. Duty load is Remington Golden Saber 165 grain or Federal Hydra-Shok 155 grain.

My secondary is a Colt Pony Pocketlite .380. Issued load for it is the Federal 90 grain Hydra-Shok.

Sometimes off-duty gun is a very old Smith & Wesson Model 49 Bodyguard. Issued ammo for it is Winchester 158 grain .38 Special +P hollow point lead SWC.

Prior to the department issuing sidearms, my duty gun was a Smith & Wesson Model 66 with the above referenced .38 load. I bought that gun new in 1975.

Duty Weapon is a Beretta 96 DOA, off duy weapon is a H&K Compact .40. Our ammo is Remington 155gr JHP or Federal Classic 155grn JHP.

Needless to say it can be a real bear trying to conceal the Beretta.

My dept. didn't supply a sidearm, I carried a Ruger P89. The requirements were DA/SA, no SA only, 9mm thru .45acp. It did supply backups if available from seized weapons.

Remington 870s and Ithyca 37s were issued with 00 and slugs.

At first, the ammo was Hydrashoks then was switched to Speer Gold Dots.

    borderguy;
    Wouldn't DOA hinder accuracy?

Duty weapon is a Beretta 8040 in .40 S&W w/Federal Hydra Shock ammo.

#1. My Agency doesn't issue back up either. I carry different ones depending on my mood. One is a Taurus SS, M-85, 2", .38. Another is a Glock 33.

#2. Columbia River Knife and Tool folding knife because you just never know.

No longer a public servant, I work in the private sector, but still have the Model 65 Smith and Wesson. I now carry the Model 686. Duty rounds are PMC El Dorado Starfire, 158 grain.

glock 22 w/ m3 light and trijicons with federal hydrashocks. I tried the glock 27, but found it was too akward during foot pursuits so I carry a 442 with federal +P hydrashocks. Shotgun in the rack with speedfeed stock with 4 slugs and rounds of 00 buck in the magazine tube and patrol rifle in the trunk with 20rd mags. Off duty weapon can be anything above .38 and qualification is twice a year.

Glock 22 with Speer Gold Dot 165 grain. Incidently, our Gold Dot was recalled earlier this month. Also, Speer has been purchased by a company called Ammunition Accessories, Inc.

    Ruger,
It hinders accuracy substancially. But my agency is so concerned with liability that the Beretta is what we get.
With my Glock I can usually shoot 350+ out of 360. The Beretta has me around 320 or so. The HK USP was a step in the right direction, it has a way better trigger, but the union didn't let it get approved for duty carry. Go figure.

Dept. issues Glock 22C's to patrol. Backup is my own Glock 27. Both loaded with Speer 165gr. Gold Dots. 870's with Federal 00 Buck Tactical in each cruiser.

Blitzer, you've got a light mounted to your duty weapon?

My duty sidearm is a Government issue Sig P228 9mm, with full metal jacket loads.

    No back up.

Off duty I carry a 45LC Rugar six shot in Bisley frame.

I have the safariland holster that accepts the light. A friend of mine got charged and was unable to reholster, so now he has a holster like mine. The dedicated light frees my weakhand during building searches for opening doors and I am able to use my hand to create distance from someone I might encounter. Also I am planning on trying out for k9 and it will be useful to have a freehand to control the dog and still be able to splash or focus light.

The holster was my confusion. Thanks for the info.
