You are receiving the SirCam virus DO NOT open any of the attachments. If you have use the link here to fix it. You have no control over who puts this in your mail http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

Yep!!!....That's exactly how some of mine have looked....maybe 6 - 7 the last month.People here that know more than I do,...and almost everyone does,...say that this is VERY LIKELY hands off stuff.I stupidly clicked on one, about 10 months ago...had a Norse/Sweedish looking name...and, resultang gibberish text. I was fooled by thinking it was a result of something I had recently sent to Holland, and eagerly did it.I was immediately informed by LOTS of guys (including Gunbroker) that I had a virus.I now don't open a damn thing, even from somebody I know, unless I can confirm it first, and, sometimes that takes days, but, I don't care.Bob

I had this virus once.It has the capability to fill up your hard drive with junk files, but so far (due to bad programming) it hasnt done it to anyone. It is, however, very obnoxious and dangerous because if you use Outlook Express, EVERY time you get online, it opens Outlook Express and sends your Word files to anyone who has ever sent or recieved an email from you. After corrupting those files with itself, of course. It ended up sending a file with my credit card information to some guy I used to talk to. Luckily, he understood and didnt scam my cc#, but it very easily could have gotten ugly. The capacity for sensitive information getting out is huge.I understand some CIA operatives even got it on their laptops and ended up having classified documents sent out to God knows who on the Net.

One excellent preventative measure is to buy & install a good AV app such as Norton (my preference) or McAfee and set it up to scan all incoming emails. Also a personal firewall from such suppliers. You'd be surprised how many attempts to screw up your sys you will find, many of them unknowingly propagated by folks who have you in their address book & have no idea their own sys has been infected.

You can use this filter program to review your mail on your ISP mail server before you download it. It lets you delete unwanted mail before it ever gets to your hard drive. The free version works fine. I have been using it for about a month. No problems with Netscape Mail. Not for AOL or other 3rd party mail servers. (Hotmail etc). But then who would want AOL on their computer anyway. http://www.contactplus.com/products/spam/spam.htm

There are quite a few online services now that, in an attempt to cut down on the spread of mass-mail-reproduction worms like Sircam, have installed virus detecting scans in their servers so that all virus infected email that tries to get through is blocked.
