Well out here in the sticks, Only option was continue with the dial up problems or go sat. My work paid for my Dish Sat. Connection and must say that it is much faster than dial up, however vpn and telnet are very slow! Downloads come in at around 600k!

600k download speeds aren't slow gunnut. A T1 line, commonly found supporting small businesses can only suport 1544Kbps. I'd say your download bandwidth is actually well above average. If your Telnet and/or VPN applications are giving you problems you might want to look into your system configurations or host machines. Telnet, as a componenet of the TCP/IP protocol, uses very little bandwidth and can function well at much lower baud rates. Virtual Private Networks are as fast as their weakest link generally, and in an Ethernet network they are usally 100Mbps. So, again, if you're experiencing delays with this type of traffice specifically you might want to look into your configurations (such as encryption, which can slow the process). G36

concealedG36, Thanks for you input, I am quite pleased the the download speed, however uploads leave a little to be desired. The slow VPN and telnet connections have nothing to do with my protcol suite, but more with the technology of the Sat system. Ping times average 700ms. The VPN concentrator im accessing is a Cisco 3030 and is capable of 50mbs running 168 triple DES.Gunnut the guru CCNA,CCDA,CCNP,CCDP,MCP,MCSE 4/2K,OCP,.........
