Dog didn't make it

Our rescue dog (really the 9 year old girl's dog) didn't make it.
He has been on a logarithmic decline.
Deaf, almost blind, getting up 3x4 times a night and barking to go outside. After two years we finally broke him of peeing on the walls.
He's been off his feed. Crashing and burning going up stairs. (Really tough to see)
Lots of lumps in the past year. And and chewing himself raw despite daily medication.
I'm guessing (hard to say since he was a rescue) that he was 9-12 yrs old. The cataracts and slow motion squirrel chasing is what I'm basing it on.
We decided after his last vet trip on Monday that we couldn't ask him to keep going.
And we set an appointment for Friday with the vet to help him along.
This morning, after a very atypical evening of sluggishness , my daughter said "I think we need to take him to the vet today and not wait until tomorrow".
After she went to school, he threw up and had some convulsions.
The mrs took him to the vet this morning, and we traded texts.
He had two pretty good years with us. And he went on alone this morning.
My daughter called him a "good little man" last night and nearly broke my heart.
He had a rough beginning and middle before he got to us.
But the girls gave him a good ending over the past two years.
They really loved him.
I taught him to sit and come (if he wasn't interested in doing something else). Which is pretty tough to teach an old dog. Much less an old terrier.
He was ornery as hell and I never cared much for him.
But if he were here tonight, he'd be laying on my feet right now keeping my toes warm.
Since everyone else has gone to bed.
Or whining for me to scratch him.
And he snored a lot.
I suspect it never gets better saying "good bye".

Y'All done good by him and that's what counts.
Condolences...
The 9 year old still doesn't want to talk about it.
6 hours in the car and not a peep on the subject.
Another 6 hours today, maybe she'll open up a bit.
I don't want to press her. But I'd love to know how she's feeling.
Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone.

big... You NEED to KNOW how she's feeling... Seriously.
Try talking to her about a couple of good times she had with dog...
Ought to be good to get her started talking. And talking is good therapy...
Leads to a few tears I know. But, the emotions have got to come out.
If not... All she'll think about is the last few days and how 'bad' it was...
Good Luck big...
