my wife has a kenmore elite HE4 quit pack it has started having an error code F11 an appliance repair man told me the electronic boards would have to be replaced @$400.00

should we spend that to fix it or just get anotherwashing machine?

does anyone have any experience with this same problem?

im not that familiar with dryers, but my threshold to start thinking about replacing instead of repairing anything is 50% of the replacement cost. if its going to cost me more than half of what a new one will cost to resurect the old one, i usually go new and put off anymore headaches for a few more years.

some(ok, most) here will probably disagree with that; but we have a whole lot of tinkerers, pack rats, and stubborn old mules who never throw anything away until its actually broken down into its basic elements.

I am with KEV...when you approach the 50% threshhold it may be wiser to replace the whole unit.

You end up with a warranty again and are not piece mealing it together everytime somethings acts up on it.

Check on the cost of the replacement part and do it yourself. You can find most any help you need online. Check V&V appliances web site, call and they will help you with what is needed. This new stuff comes apart pretty easy, most are just a couple of screws and plugs. Replace the board in a Whirlpool for the neighbor for $130.00 part. It took me about 1 hour having never fooled with one before.

I had the same problem with an HE 4t.I dissasembled the computer and re-soldered all of the solder joints. That workeed for about six months until I finally replaced the computer. I bought a new "computer" from Repairclinic.com. At the time it was around $160.00. Just have the model number and serial number when/if you order it. I unfastened the old unit and simply unplugged one connector at a time from the old unit and plugged it into the new unit. When I had the new one all plugged in, I fastened it to the machine and was done. No real trick to it. It was plug and play. These machines are known for this problem. Door lock faults were the biggest issue. After I replaced the comp, I have had no problems for 3 years.

Buy cheap and run it till it blows. 90% of the time you do not need all the settings and bells and whistles. When she blows throw it away and buy another one.
