Are they any good? I know that years ago they were fairly popular, but I have never had them before. Got a offer in the mail from them and the girlfriend seems to think we should do it. For $65.98(shipped) you get the following:

    5 oz. sirloins(4)
    4 oz. boneless pork chops(4)
    4 oz. Steak Burgers(10)
    4 oz. chicken breasts(4)
4.5 oz. stuffed sole with scallops & crab meat(2)
    3 oz. Gourmet Franks(8)
    5.75 oz. Baked Patatoes(4)
    6 piece cutlery set

The girlfriend usually does most of the shopping so I am not sure how good of a deal this is, but the sizes seem kind of small to me.

I have a friend that sells them, they are fluffed up by water and preservatives/tenderizers, they put the steaks in a big vat like a concrete mixer with the solution over night, adds weight and makes them pretty, this is done with standard cuts of meat

I have had good luck with them. Not the best but better than walmart. Iove the taters and that means a lot coming from an Idahoan

Friend made the mistake of ordering from them. Harassing phone calls 2 or 3 times a day.

Check locally for beef cattle growers and Slaughter Houses. I can buy 1/2 of a beef for just $1.25 a pound plus the "kill bill". If you know someone that wants the other 1/2 then you can split the processing fee. The last I got was 250+ lbs that averaged out to $1.40 or so a pound.

Locally breed and grown so I know how they are fed and cared for.

if they are anything like the iowa steak company we have soliciting they aint worth a chit..over priced and like FCD says, portions that resemble a appetizer.

i asked the guy where in Iowa the beef came from...that about ended his visit, after he dodged the question with "but we gots this great deal for blah blah blah and in 2 months blah blah" i reckon you could ask your guy where the omaha steaks come from and have the same results, but YMMV.

Does it give the USDA Grading? If they say it was anything other than USDA CHOICE then at the most it's USDA GOOD, and probably a lesser grade (Commercial, Utility, Cutter & Canner).

No, I don't agree. If you like cheap food go ahead. If you like good meat, you'll be disappointed.

You're right- they changed the name of A grade from Good to Select, but it's the same meat. So you have AAA=Prime, AA=Choice, A & NoRoll=Select; followed by Standard, Commercial, Utility, Cutter&Canner. In addition you have Yield grade 1 - 5; 1 being the leanest, 5 being the fattest.

I don't see any of these USDA gradings on the Omaha ad.

The change from Good to Select happened over 25 years ago. No Roll and Select are two different things, Select is a grade. No Roll is just that, not rolled/not graded. The Yield Grade is not a rating of fat, it is a rating of how much beef (%)will be yielded from the carcass.

Is the best, no, is it bad like some make out no. Actually some of it is very good. Buying the stuff regular priced its not worth it. But the deals they give you when you add up what you get and what you paid can very very good deals.

It's a bit like those $24.95 a month for cable deals - it's just to get you hooked. After that, it isn't much of a bargain. It is also very true that they pester the living daylights out of you with high-pressure sales tactics.

It took threats of legal action to get us off their mail/call list.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    My exact same experiences.
They are well marketed and advertised, but the meat is not cut right and of poor quality and way overpriced.

Yes I know they are expensive; not a problem for Mom.

I am not fan of them. I think they are hyped and the prices are not really all that great compared to a quality butcher and good cuts of meat.

You'll like the quality but when it's gone (the steaks will feed three people one time) you'll think it cost too much. My experience.

    Clouder..
