I've seen this advertised a lot on TV. Looks great, "if it works as advertised".

Anyone tried it?

I can see it working on screws. But bolds in and engine No. Unless the head just snapped off.

    It works as advertised.
    $20 well spent.
I think I bot it under the grabitz name 10 or more years ago.

I have used EZ Outs on head bolts on more than one occasion. Lawnmower, go cart and moped.

    Have a few different types.

CRL spiral extractor set from NAPA and a ALDEN Screw Extractor drill like the ones you show that I got from Grainger.

Use them a bunch on airplanes to remove bunged up screws when doing an annual sure saves a lot of time and effort.

I bought one from Sears & Roebuck to remove rusted screws in an old shotgun. All it did was counter sink the screw.

They come with various names. I think the one I have is EZ Out or Easy Out or something like that. They work, but nothing is really easy after you ring a head off, especially if you're in a hurry, which is probably why you rung the head off in the first place.

its all in the way you drill the hole to begin with..the larger the better...I'm talking about a EZ out,not that SpeedOut!...

pwillie has it right. Go slow and be VERY deliberate in the drilling out. Use small bit and then enlarge with larger one[;)]

If you drill the hole with a reverse drill bit there is a good chance you won't need the EZ out.

I was talking about the real screw extractors from NAPA or Strap on etc... I do have the exact same set shown in the Ad, but they will not drill out hardened steel bolts or studs. I only use those when woodworking.

    These are the real thing.

Capt. I have that very set, just be careful when using, they will break, they're very hard & brittle and if that happens you have REAL trouble [;)]

If I'm in the position to have to use those, I'm already in careful mode since I've done ripped the top off of something I should not have.... Most of the times I needed them were on go cart engines I thoroughly overheated and did not have quality head bolts in. Bolts lost their temper and sheared when I went to remove them.

When I worked at Teledyne repairing Tank engines, they were bad about breaking studs off at the base's...much EZ out time! If the bolt is big enough, you can drill close to the thread line, and use a small angle punch and work out the left over threads...On my old Jeeps, I replaced the head bolts with grade studs and nuts...didn't break any after that...

I have both in my shop. When I have a broken bolt I grab the E-Z Out.

    It just plain works.

I've never had great luck with ez-outs. I took a stuck bolt to a machine shop and saw what he used.

Much better set of extractors, works a little different. If you search around you can find different manufacturers for much less, but that is a good name brand.
