I will start running out there again in the spring when the produce starts running. Your in 29 palms right? I stop at the pilot truckstop in Palm springs and sometime go to coachella to pick up fresh veggies. Maybe on a layover we can go raise some heck on desert muts.

I was living there up until 10 years ago. You guys are unlucky in gun laws, and lucky in gun stores. I used to shop at B&B, where those cops borrowed the AR-15s during that assault in North Hollywood. I've also been out to King's and to Gun World over in Encino. Used to shoot at his range over there. I sure miss B&B. It had a front door like a bank vault. Talk about an arsenal. I think they distribute for stocking dealers under the name of Bumblebee, or something.

Been in San Diego the last 10+ years...no one invited me to a coyote bust yet! Have a .250 Savage (natch!) and 87 grain/3,000 fps load supposed to be black magic on coyotes, can't say, never tried 'em on coyotes (work great on bunnies/woodchucks!). Give me a few weeks' heads-up so's I can load up/load test a few boxes of ammo.

Hey Vet can you recommend any motel on or close to the beach in your area that isn't too expensive? Do you know of anyone driving between Riverside and Las Vegas that could haul a sandrail to Vegas and haul a Jeep Cherokee back? Thanks. Jerry

God you guys are killing me with your talk about my old stomping grounds. Grew up just outside of Riverside, when all we had were real orange groves in the city. Went to Riverside Poly High, then graduated from UCLA, got my Masters at the University of Redlands....and now freezing my cajones(can we say that nunn?) in the Arctic tundra of Michigan. What I wouldn't give to be there full time...but hey I'm going to be shooting my .22-250 there so soon that I can almost taste it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane...a lot has changed since I was a kid. Back then Temecula had a population of 12 or 13 people!!!! For real!! Beach

It's been a while since I've posted here but I am happy to say that I have lived in California for 46 years. I was born in Ingelwood and moved south to San Diego County in 1956. Things have changed alot here since I was a boy, and the laws do suck, but I could never leave the family or the weather.

All this talk of SOCAL makes me want to go back... Moved to NV half a year ago and although I dont miss the traffic on I-5/I-15 the weather here is the extremes of how perfect it is over in San Diego. Anyone been to the shop/range in Oceanside off hwy 76? -Smooth

will270win:I have friends that hunt the Palomar range, where it is legal, and get a deer every year. Maybe it's not on opening day but if you're a hunter they are up there. smooth_operator:I drive by the O'side shooting range every work day and stop in at least once a month to release some tension. Another great range is in Rainbow, just south of Temecula. This range is limited to 200 people a year and is paid for on an annual basis. Nice old range with most of the shooters being great people. I go there with my boys on New Year's day each year and renew my membership..

will270win, You might want to call up the MP's at Camp Pendleton. They used to run the Wildlife Office on base and as an active duty Marine you should be able to arrange on a given date to have a portion of an unused OpArea made available for you to hunt. While I never hunted deer on base, I did hunt ducks and quail. Other people I knew either put in for a lottery to hunt deer or were selected by someone....now don't get excited remember all that Pendleton had when I was out there were small coastal deer. Similar to a Cowes deer but fairly small....I think you might find some large Doberman dogs that weigh more. What we really liked was that they were very generous with OpArea size and there was no danger of running into other hunters(i.e. very safe). I'm not sure if the base still does it but it is a great and well kept secret. Best deer location, that I remember, was out near the Navy ammo storage facility on base. My info is dated and may be completely off base but what the heck it's only a phone call for you. Best of luck, Beach.

When you are in Westminster look at the Stockade (great inventory) but then go to B&B (Their second store is in Westminster). The Stockade also has a second store north of the City of Orange, different name but also very large inventory & same high prices. The Stockade 2 Locations(714) 894-0584 http://www.fowler-stockade.com [This message has been edited by gruntled (edited 12-29-2001).]

I lived in San Diego for a year when I was a kid. Rode my bike for 20-30 miles in every direction. Lived just south of SD high school on 12th st. My grand father was USMC D.I. I could field strip his 1911 blindfolded on a blanket when I was 12. In the late 50's whenever we would go out to visit he would go to Camp Matthews and check out a M-1 and we would take his Mod. 70 and the M-1 to the canyons north of S.D. to shoot. Once we stuck his 55 Pontiac and we hitch hiked back to town carrying the rifles.I take it by listening to you guys that California has tightened up a little. At the last before he passed away he was out of the marines on a disability. He would sit in his chair and do the Redd Foxx routine patting his chest and waiting for the big one. I would suggest we go shoot and he would be off running. That old guy was tough, but when we got home he would just sit back down and start patting his chest.S. Ca. has a lot of good memories for me. Still have cousins scattered all over. He was my grandfather by marriage. He was from Austria and got his citizenship in the marines, they were his closest family. My mentor (Msgt Lewis Cumerlotti-WW11 and Korea)

Still haven't had a chance to try it out. Good thing I have the fifty rounds & the dies. At the price of that ammo I never would shoot it. I would guess you have had a chance to wring out the rifle.

I put 20 rounds through it and it is now a FL resident. The stockade had one almost exactly like it. It was overpriced though.

rmeyer: Take hwy 76 east to I15 head north to Rainbow Valley Blvd. head east to "t" intersection and head north on Rainbow Valley Blvd. about 200 meters look for old gas station on left your turn is to the right just before the gas station. It's kind of hard to find the first time. Dues for the club are about $100 per year. When I checked last weekend there was still about 25 openings but they will fill fast. I would suggest that you get there as soon as possible to check it out to see if it fits your needs. I will be there both Monday and Tuesday because you can only bring one friend and I have two that want to shoot. Oh well I guess I will have to suffer two days at the range before I go back to work. What a shame![This message has been edited by Mr. Lobo (edited 12-30-2001).]

I'm over here in Costa Mesa, where you have to pack for the weekend just to find a place to shoot. The Stockade is a good place to shop, and sometimes if you search carefully they do have deals sitting on the shelf. I'm sorry to say that B&B has lost all interest, in fact I believe their Westminster store is closing and moving to Long Beach. I won't really miss them, because their clerks were often times arrogant know-it-alls. Oh well, happy holidays to all you fellow west coasters here in the Republic of California, and yes folks, thats with a capital "C"...

Gruntled - an update for you B&B is on the edge of bankruptcy and the Stockade has always been OVERPRICED! A better choice would be Gold Coast Trading on Goldenwest Blvd. or Excaliber on Beach. Both have much better prices and Gold Coast will order anything you see at stockade - cheaper!

There is also Turner's. Odd thing is Fowlergot his start as a deep discount dealer. He once had a store near downtown Orange (Not either of the other later locations.)I bought a brand new Remington 1100 Skeet model from him for $125.00 in the late sixties. He has long since made up for those early days.
