Do you know the meaning of "Poach...Poacher...Poaching" ?

I'm surprised at how many people believe the meaning of Poaching is the illegal taking of game....Webster's defines it as such..."Poach...to trespass on another's game preserve, in order to steal animals or to hunt"."Poacher...a person who trespasses on private property to catch game illegally"."Poaching...the illegal practice of trespassing on anothers property to hunt or steal game without the landowners permission".From what I've seen this year, there has been a whole lot of poaching going on out there....anyone else else having problems with "trespassers or Poachers"? What do you do about it?

BeeKeep...Technically speaking, if he did it without trespassing, it wasn't poaching....I always thought the term meant the taking of game illegally...Webster's says differently...

Rem.,whatever it`s called..we both know it ain`t legal. As I recall, while looking in the court briefs section of a news paper,in West Virginia awhile back, during hunting season,I noticed all sorts of hunting violations..and dont recall the word 'poaching'used at all.You seem to have this on your mind a lot lately ...not havin` any trouble at the farm,er ye?.218

Beekeep, yes...we are having some problems with a few.... Adjoining property owner has given everyone permission...seems they don't know that a fence can sometimes designate property lines as well as keep livestock in...it's as bad as I've seen in years.

A friend of ours has a farm in NW FL. He had a small problem with trespassers until he put up the following sign on every fence post.TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT.He said none of the county mounties ever said anything about it. Of course, it probably helped that he was known as a man that would follow up.

Poaching is dangerous because not everyone in the woods is responsible. My family is going in with the neighbors to pay an off-duty cop to patrol the borders...

My "Merriam Webster" defines it briefly as "to hunt of fish illegally".

We used to have problems with trespassers, but after my wife fired warning shots at some guys, and word got around, we've had no problems since. It's amazing what a little "direct action" can do to get the message across.
