A job is bringing me to Beaumont, TX! Should I be happy or pissed?! Are there any decent gun shops, ranges, sporting clays, duck hunting in that remote corner of the world?

Don't know about that, but keep a towel around your neck and a de-humidifier in your gun safe. There should be good duck and goose hunting in the area.

Where ya from? I'm here in McQueeney Tx- neer Seguin. If your from up north- your going to cook in the heat. Your on the (or near) the coast. Plenty of hunting and fishin. Look around and it won't take long to find what you want. Everyone in Texas has a gun and loves to shoot. I'll check and see whats in your area.- Get back-. You will find Texans very freindly (the real Texans) and laid back some. Slow down and take it easy- talk nice- and you will get a good reception. Be agressive and you will get nothing! We like rodeo, horses, space, buddies, trucks, gun racks, beer, barbeque-(with mesquite), hard work, open spaces, down to earth real people, no bullshi$ people, that will give a hand when you can, stay up and play poker- ect. go to church and get along. Not to exclude= shootin clays, skeet, deer, coyote, rabbits, paper, or anything that needs a shooti'n. Welcome to Texas!

Uncle Pat, Welcome to Beaumont, Tx. I too transfered to Beaumont, only it was 16 years ago. I hope that you like humidity with your heat because in the summer the temperature and humidity have a race to see which can be the highest. I hope that you own a shotgun because the mosquito's are considered game birds and I highly recommend #4 shot as it gets better penetration and will usually drop them with only one shot. There are several good gun shops in the area and also several ranges/clubs. I belong to the Orange Gun Club and think that it is a very nice range. It has skeet, trap, two pistol ranges and 100, 200, and 300 rifle ranges. As for hunting, well this is Texas and there is little public land so a lease is the prefered way to go. When are you relocating? Maybe we can hook up after you get settled in.

UnclePat, Come with a positive outlook and the willingness to make some adjustments. You will like Texas so much you won't want to leave. The summer heat and humidity are but a small price to pay for magnificent falls, winters and springs. You will find short pants, t-shirts and sandals to be your main wardrobe...along with cowboy boots and jeens. If you like fishing, you are coming to the right place. Same with deer, dove, duck and goose hunting. Quickly get involved in the community, the schools and a church. You will get out of the Texas experience whatever you put into it. Welcome, pardner.
