how to delete or edeit topic

I don't post all that much, but how do you track your own
post or delete a topic? And is there a way to get to your old
topics without scrolling thru the whole list. thanks vince

280,Some times I have the garbage can showing. Other times I dont. Look at Aglore post about the postal match. My responce shows a garbage can, His does not, Nor do any others. I don't understand. Could use your help.

It should only show up on YOUR post that you view. If you log out and look at it as a visitor you will not see the garbage can.

Alpine just helped me figure this out. You can reply to posts if you put your username and password into the area above your text, but unless you actually log on using the top-right prompts on the top of ALL your screens, the "edit" and "delete" buttons don't show.

Well, I'll sure try.

Starting with the most basic - If you are not logged in, you won't have either the edit (pencil) icon, or the delete (trashcan) icon showing in your own posts.

Next - If you are logged in, you should have all 5 icons (show profile, e-mail member, edit, reply with quote, and delete) showing, but ONLY in your posts that are in an existing thread.

Your own posts that START a thread are a bit different. With the new software we can no longer delete a thread that we started, so there will be no trashcan icon in these posts.

You should never see edit or delete icons in somebody else's posts, as you can't edit or delete those, anyway.

That pretty much covers it, as far as normal operations go. As I understand it, and I could sure be wrong on this, if you are logged in and still don't have all 5 icons showing when they should, there might be something wrong with the way your cookies are set up, but this starts to get beyond my very limited 'puter knowledge.

I've just GOT to learn to type faster! The two posts between this one and Varmit's post weren't there when I started this post. They pretty much said what I was tring to say, only in a whole lot less words!

,280& Warpig, Thanks for the help. Please look at Aglore post on postal matches. There is a garbage can on both my post. I don't see one on any other post. Maybee admin is telling me all my post belong in the can. When I needed the can I could not find it now it is on all my post.

I went and looked at the "Postal Match" thread. Everything looks normal to me. Everybody's posts all had 3 icons, just like they should. If I were to post in that thread, I would see 5 icons on my own post, and 3 icons on everyone else's.

Just remember, you should NEVER see more than 3 icons on somebody else's post, because you can't edit or delete somebody else's work.

Assuming that you are logged in, all your own posts in an existing thread should have the 5 icons.

If your post is STARTING a thread, however, you won't have the delete icon showing, since we can no longer delete threads we started.

Clear as mud?

When you look at YOUR own posts in this thread, do they have 5 icons showing? They should, if you are logged in. But when I look at YOUR posts, I only see 3, that's normal.

When I look at my own posts in this thread (or any other), I see 5 icons, but you should only see 3 (in MY posts), once again, that's normal.
