Question for the experts........

I was watching "The FBI Files" last night about a couple of guys that killed a couple of women and stole their vehicles and robbed a bank. When the police dug the bullets out of the victims, the lab said that they were "22 cal. from a semi-automatic pistol". My question is, how did they know whether the bullets were fired from a semi-auto pistol, revolver, single shot, hangun or rifle? Do the markings from the riflings differ between autos and revolvers, handguns and rifles, etc? Or is this just another case of typical TV reporting? It was an interesting episode but it got me to wondering......

    Watched the same program.

The Auto was a Ruger MK I or II.

I think that since it was after the fact and they had the weapon
    it was just added in.

Experimentaly some years ago rifling encription was atemted ,the groves in the rifling were machined as to give a code in the rifling marking in the ball as to indicate weapon serial number make year and type, its a standard practice of manufacturers to use unique rifling patterns in their models to prevent counterfeiting and help goverment to identify guns.... as machining costs are simplified this ID will become a standard in industry ,its being currently tested as a "top secret" FBI investigation tool .....

Truly in a sense,All bullets you fire carry your name and address on them (TOP Secret)

    Untill today .............

Yeah...that's two possibilities. The casings and just added in. Did you notice how the scum had to jack another shell in after he fired each shot? Maybe I'm just to sensitive about showing things as they ACTUALLY work.

    LTS-

That's not fair! I had an Auto-Ordinance M1911A1 Semi-auto single shot that worked pretty much like that!

Got rid of that boat anchor ASAP.
