Suppressors in WA

I am trying to buy a Suppressor and I went to the sheriff of my county and he said no. This guy kills me, he said he wouldnt do it because of home land security. Can you belive that? I explanied to him what the form 4 said and he told me he has had lots of talks with the ATF and they adivsed him not to do it. Anyhow has anyone else had this trouble and what have you done to fix it. I had always wanted one but kept putting it off. I took my Mac-11 to a shop to get it fixed and he let me test fire a suppressor on a P22, now I need one. This dealer is in a different state and told me he couldnt help me much because their rules are a bit different. The nearest dealer to me is 4 + hours away so I cant just run over and talk to them and they have been less than helpful on the phone.

Dave Reichert, sheriff of king co. will not issue the permits either for an AOW although it is in his rights to do so. The Sheriff's in the counties to the north and south both will issue the permits, but not in King Co.
I don't think suppressors are legal in Washington State.

Yes they are legal.......but because of a game law NO ONE is allowed to discharge them. That includes LE.

    Give the man a cigar!!!!

You can research the RCW's at the WA.Gov website, but I do believe it is legal to own with an AoW Permit, but ILLEGAL to attach and use in the state. The same goes for FA weapons.

On the OTHER hand, and this may dang well be a fabrication, but, I've been hearing of a guy in Selah who has developed a can that does not fall under the BATF reg for silencer or suppressor, and from what I hear the WA laws for such as well. I would call around to the 2(?) gunshops in Selah and ask som questions. If it's true, then it sounds like a device that does what you want and falls through a loophole.

A friend of mine in WA told me it's legal to own but it was illegal to install on the gun. I thought this was funny since I could picture him in his house with all the blinds down putting the can on and posing. I'm sure it's not that bad but I have to wonder if they just want their 200 Dollar Tax Stamp? I suppose it's better than not being able to own.

Yeah - you can own after paying the tax. The sherrif has nothing to do with it. Call the BATF in Seattle - they will give you the straight scoop. I think it is stupid that they say you can own one but not use it - let me think - it's a silencer - DUH !!!

Well matt I only know of one gun shop in selah. There is a shop in yakima that will do Class 2 transfers but he has only done a few and only in yakima county. Also there is no such thing as an AOW permit, it requires a form 4 transfer each time but the tax is only $5. In WA there is no FA, SBS, or SBR allowed, but you can have suppressors, DD, and AOW. Bluetic the sheriff has alot to do with it because he has to sign the form 4 for you to send to the ATF for the transfer. Yosh it is not illegal to install it but it is to actualy fire it. I have researched this tons, my hang up is on getting a signature for the form 4. The other big thing that gets me it that the sheriff konws me. We are not friends but he knows me because I the ambulance in our county is run through the sheriffs Dept and I use to work for them and I still do evey once in a while.
