I'm considering buying a M1 Garand from CMP. Any advice on what grade to get. Rack, Field, Service??

just recieved my M1 garand from the CMP, my serial number is in the 1.7 millons and i was wondering-how many M1's were made during the war and before they were replaced?

jdb123.....I have a CMP Garand from Springfield Armoury with a serial of 5,5XX,XXX. That would certainly be a postwar rifle and one of the last....I think the serial numbers may have gone as high as the the low 6 million figure but I don't have my reference book handy. Beach

The last "official" serial number out of Springfield Armory was 6084405. The highest "observed" serial number is 6100499. I got these figures from the CSP web site. See the link. http://www.jouster.com/serial/interesting.html
