First class...try no class...most of them probably don't even know what a Gold Star family is. I hope they see this story, realize that this is about them and are ashamed. [V]

The father of an Army soldier killed in Afghanistan says he and his family were booed as they flew to meet his son's body coming home.
Sgt. John Perry, 30, was killed in a suicide attack at Bagram Airfield on Saturday, along with Pfc. Tyler Iubelt and two American contractors. Stewart Perry told KOVR-TV his son stopped the suicide bomber short of his target and may have saved hundreds of lives.
Perry told the Army Times the booing took place on an American Airlines flight that landed in Phoenix Monday. Perry and his family were flying from Sacramento to Dover Air Force Base.
The captain told everyone to remain seated to let the Perry family leave first to make their connection.
"When he made that announcement, there was some hissing and some booing behind us," Perry told the Army Times.
Perry, a Marine veteran, doesn't remember the captain telling everyone the reason they had to stay seated. He recalled the captain mentioned "military personnel."
But he said he believes the passengers knew there was a Gold Star family on board. "The woman sitting directly behind us touched me on the shoulder and asked if I was the father of the soldier killed in Afghanistan," he told the Army Times.
However, Perry told The Stockton Record that he didn't know if the passengers knew there was a Gold Star family on board. He did say the captain told passengers a "special military family" had to leave first.
Perry added, "It was just disgusting behavior from people in first class. It was terrible to see."

Perry said the pilot of the plane that would take them east made sure he and his family made the connection.
"To hear the reaction of the flight being delayed because of a Gold Star family, and the first class cabin booing that was really upsetting, and it made us cry some more," he told KOVR.
Sgt. Perry will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

I think most of the people didn't know what a "Gold Star Family" was. I'd probably boo too if I thought that they were getting off first just because they were somehow special. They should have used something like a fallen soldier's family instead of a gold star family.
So you wouldn't wait the extra minute so a family, any family, could make their connection without showing them your *?
It must be hell to be so self-important.

I reckon the folks "booing" didn't understand what "a Gold Star family" meant. I'd think some first class poser who paid for an up-up grade? Even if they did line cutting is line cutting.
As for American Airlines it's just a step up from Southwestern [:D].
quote:This did not make a lot IOC sense. The family was sitting in first class (per the story) and get off first anyway. So it was only a few people on first class that had to wait. This is a non story. If someone wants to boo - it is rude but that's life. And yes I am a gold star wife.

I am important, dumb * but that's beside the point.
They need to say what they mean instead of things like "Gold Star Family" so people would know what the hell they're talking about and then they wouldn't boo if it was a legitimate reason.

Does someone need to explain "Special Education" to you, or do you boo those kids too?
Personally, if I was a passenger and they say anyone needs to catch a connection that they may miss, I would stay seated. Nothing special about military personnel, everyone deserves respect until they prove otherwise.

You know what I'm talking about so don't act stupid!!
The article clearly states that the captain didn't mention there was a Gold Star family, but just that "military personnel" wanted to get off first. If he'd stated there was a Gold Star family I'm pretty sure there would have been no problems. I've been on many flights where there were military personnel going home and the passengers applauded for them and would stay seated so they can get off the plane first.

It seems common courtesy. Gold Star Family. Military personnel. Someone trying to make a tight connection.
WTH difference does it make? Act like an adult human, stay in your seat, and you will be delayed for a whopping 42 seconds.

Sounds like a lot of nothing being blown out of proportion by a someone playing the "pity me card" for attention..
I think the Captain could have handled things a little better.
So let me make a few random comments...
We have a 100% volunteer military.
The sharp end of our stick is made up solely of citizens exercising there patriotic free will to chose a career in the military - and they keep us safe.
I imagine they represent less than 1% of our population.
We should treat every single one of them as heros - active duty / gaurd / reserve / retired...
That's it - game over - shut your pie hole and sit the F still.
And I will get in your face and tell you so.
Mike
Exactly, a career. They are compensated for what they do. Only a small percentage of those in the military are there because they want to put their life on the line to keep the country safe. The majority are there because either they had no other career choices, or they are just following some family tradition. As such, not every person in the military deserves adulation or respect for their job any more than any other person that contributes to the betterment of society for doing their job.
Also, unless you are a vet from WWI, WWII, or the C i v i l W a r, your presence there was not to protect us, but to protect the monetary interests of big business. You're welcome to get in my face and chew on some lead. But I'm personally sick of people who demand respect because they chose a JOB in the military.

I do not know how much you fly, but I have been on many delayed flights where the pilot asked passengers without tight connections to wait so that those with tight connections due to the delay would have a better chance of making their flights. I do not ever remember anyone making a stink about waiting, and every time, the vast majority of people in the plane waited so those who were in a hurry had the opportunity to leave first.
It is called common courtesy. A concept that normal people (apparently less self-important people) understand implicitly and without an authority figure finger painting them a picture.
I can't believe we are having this conversation.

And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

You guys are full of $%^Y^&. The only thing I said was not knowing what the hell Gold Star Family means could be the cause of people booing and that I might do it to if I didn't know what they were talking about. I got no problem letting people go first if they tell me just what the hell they're doing. Now you can kiss my * Don!!!
And this is my last post on this BS!!
