Expensive Hobbies

It must be nice to be able to afford some of these expensive hobbies. These guys have restored a WW-I U-boat engine. The son of a gun is almost a hundred years old and again runs like a charm. Ya gotta give those krauts their due. They know how to build nice machines.

That's just a cheap hobby, now if you want an expensive one how about restoring a P-38 back to flying status:

    http://www.platinumfighters.com/#!lockheed-p-38h-1/masterpage_27

Or you can buy one already restored:

The German Diesels are the best! The old five cylinder(Mercedes) was one of the best for longevity...[;)]

Sometimes I'm just plain outclassed(not news to most of you). I read the title of the thread and got to thinking about friends who can drop $100 or more on a round of golf.

There was a guy around here, had a old landing craft, I would have loved to have one, he was heading in,his motor quit, the current took him, he dropped both of his anchors was not enough, it ended up on the jetties, a few minutes was all it took, smashed it up, went down in minutes., sad

Guns, boats, horses, gambling, drinking, hunting, fishing, cars are all cheap compared to the truck load of ex-wives I got. Talk about expensive!

Golf isn't as expensive as shooting. An entire set of clubs costs less than one rifle with a good scope. And greens fees are about the same as one box of ammo these days. Yes, there are courses that charge exorbitant fees (Pebble Beach is now $595 per round!) but in my area, I can walk 18 holes on more than two dozen courses for about $25.

Flying, sailboating, and deep sea fishing are REALLY expensive.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

The P38 has always been my favorite aircraft since I was a kid.

I have had numerous plastic models of them over the years and even built one from a kit with balsa wood and tissue paper.

The balsa wood one actually flew, but only had one engine a Cox .049.

Tethered flight with control lines to the plane. Get dizzy just thinking about it. Crashed it until it couldn't be repaired.

Still have a model kit that's never been opened, waiting for that one day when I have nothing else to do and I'm not busy reloading.

The P-38 has always been a favorite in my family. My Grandfather was on the design team as well as many of the modifications that was made during the war. My Grandmother worked in the cowling shop during the war and that is where my grandparents met. So if it wasn't for the P-38 my Grandparents would have never met and I would have never been born.
