Truckers and guns

Somebody tell me why truckers can't have guns. Why is that?? We put ourselfs in more dangerous positions than most other people. Go to a truck stop in Ontario Ca or Altlanta GA or Lake Station IN or Gay IN. Do you know what goes on in these places at night?? I do. How about making an early morning delivery in Hunts Point NY or on Packer Ave in Philly. Have you ever gone to Compton Ca and spent the night in you vehicle? Sure there are nuts in trucks, but there are nuts in every profession including police ranks. Why is it that we are not allowed to protect ourselves? Is the life of a trucker not worth as much as a night janitor or a cop or anyone in any profession? WHY WHY WHY? I have a protection permit issued in Penn but I cannot carry a gun in the truck. I can go to FEDERAL prison for having a gun in my commercial vehicle! WHY? I almost went to jail in Ohio for having a legally owned and registered to me .45 in my truck and I told the cop I had it when he asked. I was truthfull and did not lie to him but when I said yes to his question he promply pulled his weapon and placed me under arrest. After he got the gun he asked me why I had it and I told him I did not want to die unarmed in an alley in Cleveland. He said "Cleveland isnt a bad place and you can hide in your truck" *. I have heard many stories about people spraying ether in truck vents and then busting windows to get in. of course you won't read that in the newspaper. The only thing you read about un is when we squash some idiot who was driving like a lunatic(of course the lunatic cut us off and slammed on the brakes to make an exit ramp and he got squished)and they found out that last week the driver drove over his hours and he is then blamed for the accident. That is another deal for another web site but let's face it truckers in the eyes of politicians have no rights. They say that our rights can be violated for the better good of the people(where have we heard that before???). Do you know the we truckers are exempt from search and seizure laws? We can be searched any time any where with no warrants or probable cause. That is just an example of how we truckers get screwed just fo having a C.D.L license. If any of you have some uplifting advise or comments please please let's hear them
you may cut me off in traffic with your little car but you can't outrun my .223's !

I didn't know that truckers couldn't have guns, in fact, I know two who carry at all times. One has "Driver carries less than $20.00 worth of ammo" on his window. I can't carry a gun either, concealed, because of the state law, but I have when I felt I had to. Maglites can do wonders as well!

I'm a trucker and have been to most of those places. A flare gun is legal to carry in a truck. As they run screaming they glow in the dark and are easy to find.

I often wondered why whenever I was pulled over in a weigh station, especially in Conn., it took a man in SWAT fatigues, combat boots and a 9mm handgun to do a truck inspection. In some states your billy club ,aka tire whacker , is illegal. Imagine what would happen if they found your pistol under the bunk during an inspection even though your truck is your domicile.

Don't worry, after terrorists hijack a couple of trucks and use them on suicide bombing or poison gas attacks, there will be a call to allow drivers to arm themselves--just as there is the call to allow airline pilots to be armed now. Some people just don't understand the need for self-defense, til something bad happens that "slaps them into awareness".I believe too, that there have been legal defenses--or attempts at it-- that the "sleeper" is effectively an extension of "your home" (like a motel room is) and not subject to search without a warrant--I don't know any specifics though on that. What I'd do, if I felt the need to have a firearm in a vehicle where it was not allowed, would be to make a really good hiding place and be willing to lie. "Guns?!? No, I'm not into any of that violence stuff."

"truckershaverightstoo",I just noted your "signature" about people in their little cars not being able to outrun your .223.I'm not sure I want you armed now...sitting up there in that big truck, you might be developing a "god complex"...very dangerous for us "lowly car (and pick-up) drivers".

Not bragging, its just the way it went. never felt the need to "carry" and i Know what the back line in a 76 is all about.Having said that, if i were to go on the road again, yes i would have something beside a tire iron. It's like this - we are the only group of people it is "politically correct" to discriminate against. The media & hollywood have consistently portrayed truck drivers as a bunch of drunken, dope dealing whore chasers. Having said that there are some who do. BUT there is no profession or trade that doesn't have it's share of degenerates.Isn't it ironic that a D.O.T. officer, in his battle dress uniform & sidearm, who earns an average of $32,000/yr. can, anytime and anywhere stop and search the person & possesions of a man who earns twice his salary.

i carry in my vehicle as long as it is not concealed. if I conceal it I have to unload it and store the ammo out of reach. If I could not carry in my own vehicle I would be looking for a new line of work.
I spent all my money on guns, women, and beer. The rest I just wasted.wiredog70@hotmail.com
