Clint Eastwood is in a hotel room cleaning his gun.
cleans the cylinder.
puts it together.
what's that noise?
oh, just a bunch of Mexicans tiptoeing down the hall
better hurry up and load
just in time!
the guns in the movie were noted for being historically correct. this model was originally a percussion revolver, but has a cartridge conversion cylinder, which was in circulation at the time. and it's black powder.
1. what gun is that
2. what caliber
3. are those wadcutter bullets?

I was thinking outlaw josey whales
That's my guess..
Colt Navy,.32 rimfire, pure lead spire point bullets.
That's my guess..
Colt Navy > yes I think you're right but looks like a 36 cal. no idea on the bullets
good question on the firearm I would have to cheat to find out the answer
obvious the old pistol no matter what caliber were a lot better than any 9mm or 45 we argue about as all his shots were normally one shot kills .
good question on the firearm I would have to cheat to find out the answer
and he reloaded after 6 rounds [8D]
looks smaller than a .38, some sort of .35 or .36, but the last pic of the barrel & cylinder looks more like .38
???
(I don't have a clue what gun it is!)
...and I wanted to make the point that, those aren't wadcutters.
I thought the ammo looked like .32 WCF but I suppose those are bottlenecked. these are straight wall.

They do almost look like .357 Mags.
Looks like 1851 colt navy to me
that's it [^]
okay, the Colt 1851 Navy was a .36 percussion revolver.
the cartridge cylinder conversion kit was available 1859. supposedly that was .38 Short Colt.
but these cartridges are not .38 SC, and the barrel does't look .38 to me!
what cartridges are these? (because I don't know!)
My question is how many Bad Guys did he get[}:)][:D]

So although I love GBU, and have seen it probably 100 times, and have every version and collectible they produced including posters, I seriously doubt the cartridge revolvers were used to be authentic, but for convenience.
It's just a movie, it doesn't have to be authentic.
Anybody watch Bonanza? It's time period is pre-WBTS. They used some beautiful 1873 Colts. Notice their belts? No cartridge loops. That was their concession to authenticity.
Oh yeah. 1851 Colt Navy. It was .36 cal. a .38 bullet would fit.
Cabelas had 38 long colt cowboy loads in stock.Ordered 1000 rounds online.
Fun pistol to shoot.
