I have a '98 blue book handy which might give you some ball park idea if you don't get a better offer...

I've got one that shoots great, lots of doubters out there but when I do my best it will shoot 1/2" groups with Federal Classic 150 grainers, I've tried to get it to do better with Handloads but have concluded that I'm not up to it. I've never looked into the value but have seen a few at gun shows in the 5-600 dollar range. Some even more that have been customized. When I got mine I took it in to have it drilled and tapped for a scope. The gunsmith wanted to buy it for the action to build a custom gun. Its only marks seem to be Husqvarna Vapenfabriks A.B. and also 3-06 U.S. markings. Along with a 112xxx serial number. I never considered any offers. I'd just have to go spend the money on another gun anyways. Of all my rifles it would be the last one I would let go of.

The model I have is a Mannlicher Stock 30-06 that my Dad received as a graduation present from college from his Dad (my Grandpa). He then shipped of to Vietnam and was stationed in Germany after his tour in SE Asia. While in Germany, he had the rifle worked on by a scrimshaw artist in a very european style. The floorplate has an engraving of a bighorn sheep, the receiver is engraved with an oakleaf pattern, the barrel is engraved with the same oakleaf pattern about 4" past the receiver, and the trigger guard is engraved as well. When my Dad died a few years ago, I inherited this rifle and a Browning A-5 light 12 with serial number L***. "From my cold dead hands" has never had more meaning than with these 2 firearms.Brian

Brian, it could be the model 456 which was manufactured 1959-1970. That is the only one listed with a full length stock (though a lot of things were built that don't make it into the books). It has a Mauser action, 21.5 inch barrel, walnut stock, pistol grip. In 100% condition $495 (remember this is a 98 book, so probably $525-550 today. The custom engraving work that was done however changes the value considerably. If finely done in could increase the value considerably, if poorly done it could detract from the value. Best bet would be to have it appraised by a knowledgeable dealer.

Hi Brian,I am a Husqvarna collector and I can help you with identifying your rifle. The basic info I will need are the serial number, markings on the barrel, and a detailed description of the stock like does it have a Monte Carlo comb or a straight comb? Please email directly to me at sbhva@aol.comSteve
