A JOKE........FUNNY.......[:D]

A man was in court after shooting dead an eagle,

'What do you have to say for yourself?' asked the Judge.

'Well, Your Honour, it was like this; I was walking the hedgerows and I drew a bead on a bolting rabbit. As I fired, a swooping eagle had the same idea on lunch and unfortunately was killed along with the rabbit.'

'I see', said the Judge, 'so it was an accident?'

'Yes Your Honour, it was a rare accident.'

'And what did you do with the body of the despatched bird? I hope it was not stuffed for display!'

'It was stuffed, your Honour, but with sage and onion.'

'You ate it?'

'Yes, Your Honour, I did not want to see the meat of this noble bird go to waste, so I fed my family with it.'

'I see there may be no case to answer, but before I decide, I'd like to know one thing'.

'Yes, your Honour?'

'What does an eagle taste like?'

'A bit like an OSPREY, Your Honour. [:D][^]

+1, but the one we had tasted more like a blend between Spotted Owl and Kalifornia Condor!

I shot a large Red Tail Hawk once.
Growing up in Texas, my dads boss owned a cattle ranch. And during calving season, we were invited to come out and shoot buzzards. Altho I never saw it, reportedly the buzzards would attack and kill newborn calves. So dads boss wanted them thinned out.
I was always more interested in firearms than my younger brother, and had purchased my own Beretta AL-2 autoloader 12 Ga. While my brother was armed w/dad's old Winchester Model 37 single shot 12 Ga.
Shooting buzzards is easy. Instead of fleeing gunfire, they are actually attracted to it. And they would come in I would blast em w/my autoloader.
Finally dad told me to stand down and let little bro shoot a few.
So as I watched, a buzzard flew by and he shot at it. What happened next was increadable!
Evidently his shot bothered this BIG hawk in a distant tree. And that hawk thought I DID IT. It came out of that swooping straight at me w/it's claws forward like on the Buick car commercial. As it got closer, I took a bead on it while yelling "Shoot it" to my brother who was fumbling to reload his single shot.
Finally the hawk was mere feet away from my gun muzzle when I blasted him at point blank range w/a load of #6 shot. It was almost like shooting a feather pillow. The hawk seemingly exploded into a shower of feathers. And when the air cleared there wasn't much hawk left.

Law or no law I know people who kill hawks, eagles, and owls on site. Most are die hard small game hunters who are convinced that all the birds of prey are killing a lot of the rabbits and grouse.

Which they do. I see it happen all the time. But I've never noticed a lack of rabbits enough to warrant such actions.
