    The AFI is full of people who seem to only appreciate John Wayne.

    Clint Eastwood helped rejuvenate the genre.

    Where is "The Outlaw Josey Wales"?
    Where is any film from "The Man With No Name" Trilogy?

    Ever hear of one called "McKenna's Gold"?
    http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0064615/
    Also, how could "Lonesome Dove" not make the list?
    I have to throw the Bullchit flag on this.

    API members don't consider "Lonesome Dove" a "Movie".

    Lonesome Dove should be #1 in my opinion.

    =====
    Here's the revised list. The AFI list included two movies that HAD to be in there to match the Hollywood political agenda. These were Cat Ballou and High Noon.. High Noon was a hack western with a catchy tune and Cat Ballou, while humorous, was scacely a 10-best of anything, plus it was afficted with Hanoi Jane, the Hollywod darling socialist political activist. These two films were dropped from the real list (below) and more deserving films added. Others were just dropped while others were moved within the list.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~ TEN BEST WESTERN FILMS SO FAR ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    10. Cat Ballou -- 1965 Hanoi Jane! Cow! Humorous, but a trifle. dropped
    10. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance -- 1962
    09. Stagecoach -- 1939 Yeah, I know. It was the movie that made John Wayne a star. dropped
    09. Hondo -- 1953
    08. McCabe & Mrs. Miller -- 1971 What was this doing on the list?? dropped
    08. Hombre -- 1967
    07. Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid -- 1969 A chick flick, undeserving to be here. dropped
    07. Red River -- 1948
    06. Ride the High Country -- 1962
    05. Red River -- 1948
    05. Shane -- 1953
    04. Unforgiven -- 1992
    04. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
    03. Shane -- 1953
    03. Unforgiven -- 1992
    02. High Noon -- 1952 Hollywood socialist/communist political satire. Not believable. dropped
    02. The Wild Bunch -- 1969
    01. The Searchers -- 1956
    No list of westerns is complete without "The Villain" Kirk Douglas really enjoyed playing Cactus Jack while making that POS. (I know, I know, It's a comedy... but it gots Paul Lynde) [:D]
    Another one in this line is "Evil Roy Slade" with John Astin and Micky Rooney. (Roy is my idol) [^]
    Have I ruined your day yet?
    Big Jake
    Sons of Katie Elder
    War Wagon
    Any top 10 list that does not include "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" is a joke.[B)]
    I would add "Tombstone" to my own list.
    Where is Bad Day at Black Rock? Probably in the top 5 westerns all time.
    I would also put Ride the High Country with Randolph Scott in the top 10.
