quote:An average adult American alligator's weight and length is 360 kg (790 lb) and 4.0 m (13.1 ft), but they sometimes grow to 4.4 m (14 ft) long and weigh over 450 kg (990 lb). The largest ever recorded, found in Louisiana, measured 5.84 m (19.2 ft).At 12 feet, he's hardly an adult let alone a dinosaur.

I helped capture one from one of the ponds at Kennedy Space Center that taped six feet. Around the jaw muscles. It was 15 feet in length and estimated to top a grand in weight.

Why did they remove it? It was in the pond they used for astronaut water training.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I'm confident that many of those that length are still around too...just not easy to find.
    What's next?

Oh yeah. I was pulling my 14-foot jon boat full of duck decoys one winter there when I noticed a gator sunning on the shore not 20 feet away. I took particular note that the boat was shorter. Good thing it was cold.

thats what i was thinking seeing those 2 idiots laying down like chicken on a chinese buffet

and it looks allot longer than 12' to me, take the average hiegth of the idiot standing , compare it to the width of the clearing , its tail still had a few more feet to go

I know where one lives off of the Foster Creek area, when a friend and I were fishing he thought it was a log until it moved. I would estimate at least 15 feet but the girth was what was so impressive. He was well fed. I figure if anyone ever gets this one it will be sa record for SC
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I lived, hunted, and fished in Florida and worked at KSC for nine years. I have LOTS of gator stories.

Including the lady at the Visitors Center who was caught posing her little son next to a 10+ footer. She was trying to get the kid to put an empty paper cup on the gator's head when Security ran in and scooped the kid up. While they were escorting her off the premises, she complained that NASA's "tame animals" were boring. Too stupid to know how exciting that one might have been.

The Historic record for an alligator is 19 feet 2 inches.

Australian Saltwater crocs have topped 25 feet.

There is a fossil gator named Alligator mcgrew that reached 40 feet. It had a 6 foot skull.
