The basic ingredient isn't fish oil.[;)]

    From http://www.wd40.com/about-us/myths-legends-fun-facts/

    Myth: WD-40 contains fish oil.
    Fact:
Consumers have told us over the years that they have caught some of the biggest fish ever after protecting their fish hooks and lures with WD-40. We believe this legend came from folks assuming that the product must contain fish oil since it appears to attract fish. Sorry Charlier, it just ain't so.

WD-40 Company has taken steps to respect and conserve the environment, and encourages its users to do the same. While WD-40 can be used to help protect fishing equipment from rust and corrosion, WD-40 Company does not recommend using WD-40 to attract fish.

Great chemical! To bad the jerks who make it can't figure out how to put enough propellant in the can to get it all out. If your going use this stuff buy the gallon jugs and use a squirt bottle. BOYCOTT THE AEROSOL CANS!!!!!!!!!

The reason that WD-40 was developed was to displace salt water on aircraft that had been immersed. WD-40 would push off the saltwater from the surface. The saltwater was then washed off with fresh water which then evaporated. WD-40 would then evaporate itself leaving no trace. Back in the 1960's the Navy did some research on the lubrication properties when the flap screwjacks on the P2V "Neptune" patrol aircraft started to corrode. It was found that mechanics were using it to lubricate and protect the screwjacks. At that point the Navy discouraged the use of WD-40 as a lubricant finding that it would evaporate completely within 72 hours.

There has GOT to be an easier way to catch mites than this method.

It is not the same as it was years ago. I used to use it for starting fluid on small gas motors. It worked great and kept the cylinder lubricated. I also used it to kill wasp nest as it made a great blow torch. Not anymore. Don

WD40 and some petroleum based oil will turn to super GLUE.I had to take the wood off some O/U browning Superposed and use a heat gun to get the actions open . 6 of them That a friend had put in storage. I also sprayed this Darn stuff on Pistols at Camp perry in pouring rain. put in range box and walked back to housing 10 Minutes The Pistol box had Felt holders To support the match pistols . When I got back to housing took pistols out to oil them and every place the felt and WD40 touched the bluing was down to bare metal. I would never use WD40 within 10 foot of any fire-arm I ever own. [:(][:(!][V][xx(] NEXT time you ruin something with this Cxxp dont say I did not warn You.

A long ago friend from Santa Barbara would do #36 when the arthritis in his knees would give him trouble. Said it would stop the pain within minutes...
One missing use I found by accident years ago. Spray old yellowed discolored boat canopy plastic windows. Let set and wipe to remove fogged and age stained plastic to clear.

I know a gunsmith that doubles his repair charge if he smells WD 40 on the non-functioning gun. There are MUCH better lubes out there, and much better penetrants. It dries into GUM.

I do a little hot bluing for myself. After boiling in the salts, piece goes into a boiling distilled water bath for 10 minutes. When I take the part out of the water, hit it with WD 40 to push off the water. Only time I use the stuff.

Good water displacer, crummy lubricant. Not made by god for every use a man can think of. Personally, I rarely use the stuff, since I live in the desert, and there are plenty of better products for lubing and protecting metals.
