I hve never done any of the auctions here but I was lokking through the guns and there is a Smith & Wesson .45 I wouldnt mind having to fill the bill on what I have been asking so much about but it says on the listing that he requires a $100.00 dollar deposit after the auction closes until the winning bidder clears their back ground check. He doesnt have any feed back listed with his name either. Is this a normal procedure for a auction here to have to send a deposit and then my payment?

I am watching an auction. It closes with no bids. I contact the seller and make an offer that is accepted. Is this considered off board buying or is the site disinterested once the auction closes? This came up on another forum and I would think GB would object to making contacts and sales through the auction site without getting their cut, but everyone else is saying once the auction closes GB is no longer involved even though the buyer made contact through GB. Anyone know what the rule would be on this?

If you are watching an item but you don't bid on it is it not available to view after it closes? I used to check to see what the final price was on some items but now I can't do that without bidding?

DO NOT send any money before clarifying
    what this "background check" means.

Normally, a signed FFL will suffice.
This can be verified rather quickly.

Sounds like a slick way to keep your cash
if for some other reason the deal should
    fall through.

BAD JUJU - That is not a normal procedure! The winning bidder only needs to provide payment and an INK signed copy of your dealers FFL to the seller. He is then obligated to send the item to your dealer. What happens after that is none of his concern - unless the serial # comes back as a stolen[:(][:(] Then he has a few problems to deal with... This must be a new seller who is sorely misinformed of the regulations - tread with caution!

Pass on this one, it is not a usual procedure, and looks like a way to seperate you from $100.

WHEN WILL these guys stop inventing their own notions and passing them off as "rules"???? You'd think they never saw an auction before in their lives... In which case, they ought to hang back and watch a while until they get a clue how to put up an auction.

Offeror - Speaking of making their own rules.....was in my favorite local gun shop yesterday, an older gentlemen walked in to see about getting a rifle shipped to his grandson. I bit my lip and shut up, since these guys are good to me and what's a few bucks if they do the work for him, right? Except the guy behind the counter is the new guy, and he proceeds to tell the man that it is illegal, no way no how, for a private citizen to ship a firearm for anything other than to a mfg for repair.

The guy leaves, confused, and I start in with "I didn't want to butt in, but.....". My gentle explanation gets the jaw stuck out, head shaking, you-don't-know-what-your-talking-about I'm-the-dealer-here response.[:(!] Normally I'd let it go, but something got under my skin (probably lack of sleep), so I let him have it about having had an 01 FFL before, currently buying and selling via internet when I need to, and clearing all my action with the BATF, and he's welcome to call them.[}:)]

Jeez. At least I got the Marlin 22 I was checking out.[:D]

    Sorry about hijacking the thread.

Got a new gun for my ex-wife.....pretty good trade, huh?

I e-mailed the seller, I'm curiours as to why they were asking for this. Most likely a new seller (No rating) who is not aware of standard (BATF Approved) pratices.
