Went to let the dogs out and noticed this nest on the corner of my shed. Got the pressure washer out and blew them apart. Watched a video on youtube and this was the best option available. They also said you can shoot the nest apart with a air soft gun. UH, NO, I like the pressure washer idea better. Gone in ten seconds. I then sprayed the area with wasp and hornet killer. Oakie

Then lots and lots of Spackle... [;)][:D]
I am sure that's interfering with some ones rights running them out of the neighborhood and destroying there home [:D]
glad no one was injured or stung in the making of the video
Good thing U saw it b/4 it turned into a KINGDOM!!
Good job John!
step 1 buy new can of WD40 install spray tube.......step 2 spray liberally all over the nest. use 1/2 the can......step 3, ignite the spray and torch the nest with the remaining half of the wd40. step 4 use your power washer to keep the house from burning down
Would U suggest concentrating W D fire on the nest opening first,to take out bees, then going into a soaking pattern?
I have never had to tackle one of those nests, always ran across them out in the woods..
Best of luck to any of Y'all that have to take'um on!
If you can wait until November, they will all clear out. I don't know where they go, but they are gone by winter time.
Had one of those nests show up on a low limb in my back yard last summer. Honestly, I did not know what to about it so I came up with a solution. I got a 55gal heavy duty trash bag and waited until it was dusk. Placed my ladder at the base of the nest and took the bag and slipped it over the nest and held on the limb nice and tight. Cut the limb about 8" from the top of the nest and pushed the nest and the limb they were attached to right into the bag. Tied the bag up and boy were they ticked off. The bag buzzed for almost three hours afterwards and they went to the dump the next day. Your nest is a completely different situation. Good luck.
Likewise I also used this method on a large low hanging hornet nest. I waited until after dark and sprayed two types on insecticide into the bag first. They was mad for awhile but quieted down. I cut the nest open the next day to see what it looked like inside. Years later I developed an allergy to yellow jacket and horse hornet venom. They are the same and different than bee and wasp venom.1
Their nests do resemble paper. A paper wasp nest in MI looks vastly different.
Just be careful with those garbage bags. Sometimes the hornets post a sentry right at the bottom hole.Ouch!
Night time and do it fast.
The bottom opening leads me to believe Oakies nest was made by hornets.

Yellow Jackets will build the same type of nest - they don't always build in the ground, especially in the northern areas.
Game Cam set up of course![;)][:D]
Wait till they're asleep, and spray paint a Confederate Flag on it.

That would be fun to watch. I'd pay good money to see one of the homeboys from the hood tear that flag down! [:D]
Same in MO. Paper wasp nest is open faced with multiple compartments. I've had a couple of nests which resemble the one pictured but were only fist sized.
BTW Menards has the 16 ounce cans of wasp and hornet spray on sale this week 4 for $5. It works pretty well but the long range spray only lasts for the first 1/2 can. Then you need to start with another new can. The second 1/2 of the can is still fine for close(up to 7-8') so I always take 2 cans when assaulting the nests in the rafters of the pole barn.
My property is big enough that if a wasp nest is far enough away where I'm not bumping into it, I let it alone. They are some of the best garden predators against tomato worms there is.
Banana spiders, jumping spiders, they all get a pass too as they are harmless and help control the grasshoppers.
Frogs eat up any snails that are around and is a sign of a very healthy yard if you have them.
Even fireants get a pass if they're not in a traffic area as they aeriate the soil.
I don't use pesticides in my yard as it kills much needed bees so I took a clue from the Injuns to work with nature instead of against it. It turns out pretty well for me not killing anything that doesn't need killing.
How a person cultivates their yard is their business, but there are options other than just mindless destruction of nature. If the wasps aren't bothering you, why bother them?
