I got this in response to a rifle I had advertised locally, the same scammer has tried me a couple of times:
"Hello,
I would like to proceed with the instant purchase immediately, Am ok with the condition and the price, I just got deployed from your area thats the reason i wont be able to meet to see it but i can contact my FFL holder and can you give me the contact info of you as the person i am about to purchase the firearm from? I can email msg a copy of my FFL for verification if you want. So let me know if you are ready to proceed in receiving the payment right away, it will be in form of a certified cashier check which will be mailed to you via USPS 2-3 working days delivery, So you ll have to ship to my FFL once the check is cleared. So please kindly get back to me with your details as requested below.
Name to be on check
Full address to receive the check
Mobile number
Final asking price of the fire arm.
Regards,
Alexandra John "
The following is the reply that I sent back, oddly enough, he hasn't gotten back to me yet:
"You had just gotten deployed the last time you tried to scam me, you sure spend a lot of time deployed.
If you still want to make a deal, send me your home phone number, your cell phone number, your correct, current address and your social security number and we can proceed from there. Oh yeah, a credit card number and a bank account number would speed things up a lot.
Have a good day"

So what's the scam? I understand that the cashier check can be fraudulent, but if you wait a bit longer after the first clear to really make sure it's good, what's the scam? I know cashier checks clear when you put it in your bank but really take a few days to truly clear. Is there something else to this scam?
The wording of the message appears to be from someone in Somolia or Iran or ??
[:D]
Well . . . truthfully, he never said where he just got deployed to.
Oh, wait - nevermind.

you can get in trouble for depositing counterfeit checks. why would you bother when you KNOW its a scam.
He didn't say he deposited it.
The Vet scam has replaced other softhearted methods of trying to fool good souls to send without cautions.
It doesn't sound quite like modern American English.
Nigeria was a British colony and it sounds like British English from about 1930, like they speak in Nigeria today.
Also the name "Alexandra John," that ain't a modern American name.
We used to get c-list scammers all the time for our rental houses and they all spoke in a 1930s-era British style English, "My dear sir, I hope you chaps are doing well, we would be most delighted to aquire rental of your beautiful dwelling."
Nigerian scammers.
Does anyone in Nigeria have an honest job for a living?
There isn't even a real person on the other end until well into the game.
