I Bought Some Gold

I bought 3 Krugerrands the other day.
I have been watching the market for a year. I wanted the price to drop beneath $1,000 and I was going to buy.
But, the price climbed. I watched it go from $1,200 up to $1,300 recently.

I wanted some of these coins so I went ahead and bought at $1,300.
I just like having some of these beautiful coins to look at, and to play with.

Several years ago somebody on this forum recommended Provident for buying gold from. Well I used Provident and I give them 5 gold stars.
Very knowledgable staff, very good service.

I will keep watching the market, if the price drops below $1,000 I may buy a bunch of Krugerrands.

I like the Kruggerands also and Provident has been great to work with. I'm targeting silver now.

    Can't buy them locally?

I wanted to buy the coins locally. I knew they would be a little more expensive, plus would have to pay sales tax, but I would like to support a local business.

I called the big local coin shop and they didn't have any Krugerrands.
Had two Canadian 1/2 ounce coins, and one American one ounce coin.
So, might have had to wait for weeks, or even months for the local shop to get some Krugerrands.

Provident had all the Krugerrands I wanted and they arrived here 48 hours after I placed the order.
Thus does the internet beat up on the local businesses.

I have a silly question but I am ignorant as to the advantage of having gold physically in one's possession. I see many risks and few advantages. If the world ends as we know it for a week or a month or an even longer period are gold coins the best barter? I can think of many things I would prefer as trade items. If the dollar fails and we enter another great depression is gold the best bet? Remember FDR confiscated privately owned gold and reimbursed the owners with paper money. I'm just asking here. I really don't know.

If the govt tries to take your gold, well that is why we buy lead and brass.
