Went out to mow the lawn Sunday, have 2 grills in front of our 2nd garage door. Pulled the above Weber grill to the side to get the lawn tractor out. Walking back in the garage and jumped when I spotted that snake!

We have another Weber out front of the garage that had it's bottom vents open. 2 of them Western Ratsnakes were living in there. Watched that guy climb right in the bottom of that Weber.

Left him alone and mowed the lawn - almost ran him over twice. Both snakes came out of hiding and slithered off into the woods.

That's a good looking snake you have there. They are pretty easy to handle if you pick them up gently and move them where they are out of the way.

Also, very fun to use to scare your cat.[:D]

Kudos for just leaving them alone. If they hadn't moved off on their own, you could have gently picked them up and carried them away. Those are both very beneficial snakes, as noted above.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

No. It tastes a lot like lizard, though.

All of the snake, in fact all the reptiles I have ever eaten tasted like frog legs. OK, but not near as tasty as bison.

Lovely Black rat Drobs, Those things can climb 18 feet up a three inch pole to feast on purple martin chicks.

I have seen a 9 foot relative glide through low forest in Costa Rica like a needle through silk.

You sound like my dad when it comes to snakes.

We drove from Ks. to San Diego back in '77. Somewhere in Az. or NM., don't recall which, we'd stopped at a rest area for lunch. While there Tracy had caught some kind of little snake and stuffed it into a jar with a handful of grass. About a half hour further down the road Tracy asked "where's my snake?".

"WHAT?" That big Ford crewcab all but slid to a stop and there we were roadside with dad a good ten or fifteen feet away from the truck while Tracy, Wanda and I pulled everything but the seats and carpet out of the cab looking for that snake.
About 20-30 minutes later Tracy dumped the jar out on the ground "there it is".

We all got a good laugh out of that one. All but dad that is.

I have a mole / vole problem in the backyard. Bastages are tunneling all throughout the backyard. I wonder if I couldn't wheel the Weber back there and get them closer to their food source?

Maybe I'll dremel the openings on the grill larger to keep em using it year round.

i have been getting a daily visit from a huge garter snake in my garden, it is very welcome to stay and guard things while i sleep

black snakes are great mousers, but if you have chickens they are egg and chic killers
