Mine took about 90 days 3 years ago. My renewal at the beginning of this year took the same.

3-4 weeks. Just be sure to send the required copy to your local Police Chief or chief law enforcement officer (Sheriff, etc.) as the ATF WILL check with them before issuance.

I think about a month or so. Wasn't long.

BTW- You should lapse and apply for a new C&R rather than renew. The law is that when your C&R lapses you can destroy your log. Why maintain that record for years and years? It's easier to keep only 3 years worth at a time.

...first one took about 3 months, renewals since, about 2 months.

...the local "LEO" crap cans them around here,...they
would have no idea if you did, or didn't send them a letter
of "notification". The "notification" does not require it to be
    registered or certified...[;)]

So keeping a few extra pages of paper is more trouble than filling out the forms again and having to wait all over again? Am i missing something?

No, not having to keep a record that can be demanded by federal law enforcement agents is sort of the point. And I didn't find the application all that difficult to fill out. Do as you wish with yours, I just think that I would prefer to not maintain records for an enternity.
