Black Talons

Recently I was able to find several of these shells from a connection I made here. I was determined to test the performance of them. First I set a bundle of newspapers on thier side and packed tight, I shot into them 2 times, each round went in about 10 inches and I was disappointed, no expansion of the bullet at all I was shocked!. Then I remembered a conversation a friend of mine and myself was having about these a few weeks ago and he said to shoot into wet newspapers to somewhat mimick flesh. WOW, I did and the outcome was wicked! They went in about 7-8 inches and fully expanded, Talons sticking out like small knives and the Talons on them cut my finger tips when digging them out of the wet papers. I wasn't disappointed anymore.[:)]

Wow price shock! I know they don't make them any more but jeesh 40 bucks for 20. My Dad wants me to get him a box of the .40 S&W because he shot all of his except for a clip full when he first bought his before they were discontinued. I guess I'll break down and get hima box.[:(]

A dead intruder cannot testify against you in a court of law!

If they're still moving, put another round in them!

Somebody told me about this years ago but I haven't tried it, not sure if it would work.
You take a hollow point. place a drop of Mercury in it and cover with wax.
The mercury will split the bullet.
Has anybody tried or heard of this?

Years ago I did a test shooting Black Talon against Golden Sabre. I used sopping wet newspaper at 15 feet. The Black Talon penetrated 6 and 3/4 inches and expanded to .54 inch. The Golden Sabre penetrated 7 and 1/4 inches and expanded to .67 inches. Either one would be fatal.

When I was a kid I made mercury bullets, exploding bullets, duplex bullets, poison bullets, AP, tracers, and anything else I could think of. The mercury bullets don't split and are best left alone due to the toxic metal that never goes away. A dab of heavy grease in the HP does the same thing as mercury at a lot less hazard.
Use a drill and route out the HP. This makes it lighter and give more room for the grease.

Since they say the human body is mostly water, I tested .45 ACP Black Talons in water.

I placed 2 one gallon milk jugs filled with water next to each other with a plastic trash can as a back stop. Shot thru both with perfect expansion and very clean.

The bullets all opened up like minature saw blades.

O.k. , I worked for winchester a long time ago as a 'gunsmith' , I have always liked the talons (now sxt) , for some really neat fun type tests , go to the store and buy a bunch of generic jello , take it home and make up a couple of gallon milk jugs of "jello" , set them out and SHOOT !!!!! what a blast.........
    Thanks !!!

Mercury in a hollow point is put there to make sure the person gets the maximum affect.. DEAD... Doctors cannot get the mercury out of the body as it dissapates and later causes gangreen..One little drop doesnt increase the bullets expanding properties that much.. It is against the law to put mercury in a hollow point.. Geneva convention sort of thing
