hard to say what handgun "won" is debatable, what handgun U.S. carried i think perry shooter covered that
over 20 different handguns from the 1911, S&W model 10, webley, nagant, several colt model revolvers, several browning model pistols where used
[:D][:D]
The first double-stack magazine among other notable features copied around the world.
The only handgun that I can think of that ever won a war was whatever Hitler used to apply the "final solution" to his cranium. Hope it was a Luger. I like Lugers.

Would have been awesome if Hitler, Mussolini & the Jap Emperor would have each been the unlucky recipient of a 230gr. hardball.
A Springfield Armory from WW1
A Norwegian 11.25mm (.45 ACP) from 1925
A Colt, Remington Rand, Ithaca, and Union Switch and Signal from WW2.
While the 1911 and the 1911A1 did not win either WW1, WW2 or any other war, they did play their part, and in the case of WW1 and WW2, did come out on the winning side.

Slight error WW I was the model 1911 1911A1 did not come out until just before WW II so the true answer is the 1911was used in both world wars the 1911A1 was only used in WW II
True that![;)]
Two Colts from WW1.
