SNAKE!!!

My buddy is hatching some chicks in his house and as they pop out, he is transferring them to his new shed next door. The brooder is a cardboard (banana) box with holes in it. I think he has 8 - 10 biddies in there now. Anyway, this PM we went to the shed to see how the new babies were doing and there was a dead one with its rearend in one of the holes in the box. Very unusual and how did it get in that position, rearend in the hole, beak & feet inside. Andy tried to pull the chick back inside the box and couldn't. He then reached behind the box to push the chick back in.

Wish I had a camera of what happended next. He jumped about 3 feet off the floor and yells SNAKE, SNAKE.

Some how, some way, a snake had gotten inside the shed, had gotten hold of the chick. I guess it tried to back out when we came in but would not let go of the chick.

This is a very new shed, and tight as can be. He built it himself and is a very good carpenter, it is tight. We have no clue how the snake got in unless it came up a wall and thru the roof, as that is the way it was trying to go before it met its doom.
Since things are pretty dull around here, this will probably make our week! Tom

I had a snake problem today also. I stepped onto my back porch(around noon) and put my bare foot onto the back of a diamondback water snake(they look very similar to cottonmouths but without the broad head). The little meanie bit me on the top of the foot and then got away under the fence. An hour ago(9:30) I walked onto the back porch again and there it was AGAIN! It started torwards the fence again and I reached down and grabbed the little booger(taking another bite to the wrist) and threw him as far as I could down the dirt road behind my house. I typically won't kill non-venomous snakes but if it shows up again, it dies!

Jeeze CLINTF, I have been working with snakes professionally since 1972, and I have never been bitten twice by the same snake! I have also never thrown a snake down a road. I think maybe it was precognitive karma on the part of the snake.
