    We have these in Finland, really smart bird. I had one as a pet for one summer when I was a kid, Repe was his name [:D]

    very smart birds. when i moved out here had my dog in a pen[he is inside now 100%] but the magpie would pick up a kibble, hop over to the water bowl, and dunk it 5 or 6 times to soften it up before eating

    I believe that they are somewhat of a cross between a blue jay and a crow, and size wise they fit the bill. 30 years ago they were fun targets to shoot at after a night of rabbit shooting. Great pic though, thanks!

    No cross that, though they are corvids, in the same family as crows. The Eurasian magpie is considered to be one of the most intelligent birds in the world. Some years ago I had good friends that lived very near where Wm81 lives now in Missouri. They had a pair of magpies they had hand raised from babies. They were tame and learned to talk with a little help from their owners "friends" including me. Thus when she went out back to make the food call, which was a whistle, the two magpies would come flying from the woods calling, "Oh poop, soups on." They also learned to say 'Birds can't talk" in response to Hello.
