I just got the paperwork on our German Shepard that I can send in to get her AKC papers (I have untill June to send them in).

It will cost me $45 to get the papers on her.

Is it worth it to get this done?

I was debateing on letting her have one litter of pups in about another years or so but really had not desided if I was going to or not.

When I lived in Alaska my wife's BINGO buddy was a little old Aleut lady. She told my wife that a dog with a black mouth (inside the mouth) was always a "good dog". The only thing better than a black mouth was a black mouth with a black tongue. I asked the wife to ask the little old Aleut lady what she meant by "good dog". The only answer I ever got was "better than the other dogs". "Good dog" is a pretty general description to me. Does anybody know if there is a grain of truth in this, or is it just another urban legend (suburban or boondocks legend)? Also, does anybody know what the Aleuts mean by "good dog"?

How does a dog's hearing, sense of smell and eyesight compare to a human's? I know that their senses exceed our's but by how much? I have a German Shepherd and there are times I think he also has "radar" as one of his senses. We can be watching TV and long before a knock comes on our front door - he's already there in a guard stance.

For those of you who own dogs, I have a question: How the @#$% do I keep my dog from eating her turds? I'm serious - she will drop a deuce and turn around and chow down.... I'm afraid it may not be the healthiest thing for her to snack on [xx(] you know risking worms or something of that nature. Any suggestions?

I have two dogs, my shiba inu went out this morning
after his walk, he was laying on the carport, everything
was fine, I was getting him ready to come in and found a
bulge on his left shoulder, it looks as if someone had
cut a baseball in half and shoved one under his skin.
its not painful, he does not even notice it.
I called the vet and they told me to give him Benadryl.
I was very concerned at first, but if it was cancer it would
have been growing all this time, not just popped up.
later on in the evening, I walked out side and ram into a
swam of wasp, thinking of maybe a few wasp had stung him.
anyone ever ran in to this with your dog?

I have always heard that a black mouth, black tounge dog was smart. The only thing I could figure is you can't see them bite you in the dark. Don

I've heard the same story for years, but have no idea of the truth of the "tail". It could just be another myth, but it's sure been around for a loooong time. My grandfather used to say it, and he has been dead for forty years.

Dogs are dogs. Some are good, some are bad. Some were good until a human made them bad with bad training or abuse.

The only dog with a fully black mouth is a Chow. The only other animal with a fully black mouth is a bear, forget which one.

Yeah, I have heard it too. A dog with a black roof of the mouth is supposedly smarter. I have always just considered it a sign of "good luck". My dog happens to have a black mouth, and he is a smart one. Actually, he is too smart and a pain in the butt sometimes.

Come on James, it is pure balloon juice. Do you supposed the genetics for a black mouth are linked to dispostion like blue-eyed white cats are deaf? How many malamutes did you see with black mouths? Actually I have a cat with a black mouth (pink tongue though). Suppose that makes her a good dog?[:p]
