Choose one handgun...FOREVER!

I know it's been beat to death, but I'm bored. If you could only own ONE handgun for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? We're talking about ONE handgun. No add-on units like .22 convertions, multi-barrel systems such as the Desert Eagle, or anything else. ONE stock handgun for the rest of your days. Let the fun begin!

It was a Walther P38 made in 1942 with all matching numbers and all proofed by the same person most accurate and seetest handling 9mm I have ever shot until some THIEF stole it. (I hope the * shoots himself with it) .... Oh, sorry, got distracted a bit there. The one I would keep forever is my Ruger P-89 9mm. (not quite as accurate as the Walther, but still very nice)

Evil, you have truely earned your name by putting this much pressure on people with known "gun addiction syndrome".....a Kimber .45, or maybe a Colt SAA,....no wait, a Browning Renaissance 9mm...... [This message has been edited by Rembrandt (edited 10-03-2001).]

Evil....you are not bored....you're demented! This just isn't fair!A Colt 1911 Series 70 .45 pistol moderately matched out.Reason: very good stopping power, great ammo availability, great parts support, superb accuracy, but barely adequate concealability. Beach

Evil - you chose your username with remarkable perception. M66 S&W with well-worn grips. There are many more powerful, more concealable, greater capacity, but that piece just feels right. It won't take a Grizzly, but I wouldn't use a handgun for hunting, anyway.

I know, I know: I'm a *!Seriously though, I'd take the Colt 1991A1 with a matte stainless finish.1. I like the feel of the slim-framed, 1911-style handguns. It feels like a natural extension of my arm when I point and shoot. 2. The matte stainless finish makes it almost impossible to rust out, even after prolonged abuse in wet climates. A definate plus if you spend a lot of time in the woods or on a boat in saltwater areas. 3. The .45 ACP round is right up there with the .357 magnum as being the most versitile handgun round on the planet. The .45 ACP is less likely to pass right through your target. When using the proper ammunition, it will lodge itself in the body, thereby dumping ALL of that monstrous energy into the target. 4. Although a bit longer, the Government model that I own is slim enough to easily conceal. The length may give you away, but you'll never tell from bulk that I'm carrrying.

Browning Hi-Power 9mm. It has a 14 round mag and heavy frame for less recoil. Looks good also. The Beretta 92F I use to have was nice also.[This message has been edited by jltrent (edited 10-03-2001).]

Colt 1911 Government model (45 ACP). It gave 68 years of faithful service to our military, and in my opinion, should still be in service.

Colt Official Police .38Spl. Best all around, double action wheel gun ever made.

I have to agree with usmc2498215, I carried the 1911 when I was in the Marines. They were just starting to get the Baretta when I left and I got a chance to fire one before I got out. It can't hold a candle to the Colt .45 and the whole double action auto-loader is a bunch of nonsense in my opinion, as are high cap mags. The Colt M1911 fit the hand perfectly and if the gun and mags were in good shape (and quite often even if they weren't), the single stack mags usually fed just fine. One just carries more spare mags and practices quick mag changes. The only advantage to a 15 round 9mm is rapid fire without reloading, frightening yes but I guarantee almost no one can be accurate blazing away all 15 rounds like that. I'd rather squeeze off 7 or 8 well placed .45ACPs than blast away 15 poorly aimed 9MMs.

My thoughts exactly, Opentop. At least, those are my thoughts now that Beach verbally throttled some sense into me regarding those high-capacity demons!(This post has been paid for by Beachmaster. No retired Navy men turned high school teachers were harmed during production.)

And isn't great that Colt just brought back the "original" M1911? http://www.colt.com/colt/html/a1a_m1911a1.html

opentop ... that is kinda cool, would that be considered an original reproduction ... or an original? If I win the lottery I'll have to get one ... naw, If I win the lottery I'd have to get a real one ... anyone know the price on these New WWII 1911 A1's?It is good to see Colt getting back into the game, even if everything they make is priced at almost twice its worth ... still good to see!

Why is it that people prefer to buy the Series 70 pistols over the new 1991A1 Series 80 pistols?I guess the nostalgia factor is there, but they seem a lot less practical.

Guess I'll be different I would keep a T/C contender w/extra barrels yep some super 14's would do the job.

Have to be a Kimber Custom Stainless with extended slide release and a nice set of Walnut panels. Very practical, not too flashy, just gets the job done. WIN52C
