auction fever

has anybody ever experienced what i call auction fever? this is where you get so anxious to "win" an auction that you bid more than you know you should. i just had a touch of it on another site where i bid $20 for an item that i think is only worth $15 at tops and is just like one i bought a few weeks ago for $8. lukily the other guy had it even worse than me and bid $21. at that point i came to my senses and dropped out. i think sometimes bidders see the auction as a competition against the other bidders and decide that they must win at any cost. i try to see it as a competition between the buyer and the seller. seller wants to sell for as much as possible while buyer wants to buy as cheap as he can. anyone else have any thoughts on the psychology of the auction?

Hacker....Anybody who hasn't fallen victim to it has never bid on something.People get this mind set that "well, it's only $5 more than the other person bid". What most people don't realize is that it's probably $10 more than the item is worth.Set a maximum amount you'll bid and resist every temptation to go over that amount.Been there, done that!!!Mudge

Done it too many times. My problem is that my joints are too stiff to kick my own *.
So many guns to buy. So little money.

Auctions are just like gambling, know ahead of time how much you're willing to go and hit the brakes when you get there.

I hate it when I get carried away and bid off something and then look in the latest Shotgun news or the local Wally Mart and it is cheaper. It pays to research a lot before you bid and wait to about 30 minutes before and bid the max amount you will pay.

jltrent brings up another point...those people who wait until the last minute and then jack it up. i know it's just part of the game, but i still hate it.

I've been using the "Buy it Now" option quite a bit lately, start an auction for the least I'll take (no reserve), then use "Buy it Now" for the price I'd like, 8 of the last 10 sales had, have been sold using "Buy it Now" Hey Mikey ... I like it!

If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

Saxon: i believe that comment is so much " barbra striesend". If you have gone deer hunting, every shot you took was at a running critter? i seriously doubt it. and i dont blame you. i would want to "bring home the bacon" myself, if i was a deer hunter. Sniping is just part of the game. I can deal with it and you should be able to also.
