Sorry for the double post.. server disconnected me and it reposted when I logged on again... Nunn if you read this .. please delete one..

I copied this story from Fox, and while I do not usually post the News, this one needed posting... it is so totally sickening

I sat in stunned silence while the story was read, and then I cried..cried for the kids an what they went through, cried for the utter waste of two precious lives..
Her hair was more important than the kids???? But I have to ask, where the H*** were the peoples heads that were walking by? Why didnt they call the police?.. Surely someone must have seen the kids in that car..
Has society become so self absorbed that we dont care about 2 kids dying in an overheated car?..IS it normal to us to walk by and not get involved?...

I have called the police about animals locked in cars, the police responded, found the owners and fined them.. surely someone must have seen the kids... I dont know of any street that doesnt have at least one person walking on it in the course of 2 hours...Didnt anyone walking by think it was "unusual" that two kids are alone in a car? What about the shop owners?

TWO KIDS LEFT IN CAR

AP
Tarajee Maynor
Monday, July 01, 2002

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - A mother accused of leaving her children to die inside her sweltering car while she went to have her hair done has been charged with first-degree murder.

Tarajee Maynor, 25, of Detroit remained jailed without bond Monday. She faces automatic life in prison without possibility of parole if convicted as charged.

Acacia D. Maynor, 10 months, and Adonnis D. Maynor, 3 years, died Friday after being left alone in her black compact car for more than three hours, police said.

"We treat animals better than that," Southfield police Chief Joseph Thomas told the Detroit Free Press. "It's our full intention to put her behind bars for the rest of her natural life."

"This is a hideous crime, a horrific crime," Thomas told The Oakland Press of Pontiac.

Maynor was arraigned Sunday before 46th District Court Magistrate Eugene Friedman on two counts each of first-degree murder and felony child abuse.

The Southfield magistrate ordered her held without bond at the Oakland County Jail.

Maynor, who is due back in court on July 10, was not represented by an attorney, police said Sunday.

"Those children really suffered," said Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Deborah Carley. "The mere image of her sitting in that salon, getting her hair done, reading a magazine while they were suffering makes me sick."

No one answered the door Sunday at the northwest Detroit house where Maynor lived, the Free Press said.

"Whatever happens to her, she deserves," Tanisha Anderson, whose daughter Jasmine, 5, used to play with Adonnis, told The Detroit News. "That's sad. That's very, very sad."

Thomas said the windows on the car, a Dodge Neon, were rolled up when the children were left. He said Maynor's hair appointment apparently took longer than expected.

The weather was sunny on Friday afternoon, with afternoon highs in the 80s, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature inside a parked car likely would be much hotter because of the greenhouse effect.

Police were called to Providence Hospital where the children were pronounced dead about 11 p.m. after Maynor brought them in.

Maynor first told police that she had been abducted, raped and then returned to her car to find her children sleeping, police said.

She later changed her story, telling police that she stopped to have her hair done about 4:20 p.m. and left the children. When she returned more than three hours later, she found them dead, police said.

The woman said she then drove around for about three hours so that she could think of a story for authorities, police said.

"That's what's even worse -- she drove around with them, trying to conjure up an excuse so she could get out of it," Thomas said. "And when she finally confessed, we find out she was at the hairdresser."

Autopsies were scheduled to determine an official cause of death for the children, but Detective John Harris, a police department spokesman, said the heat inside the car was the likely cause.

Seems like this happens every year ... a year or so ago a "mother" left her 2-3 small/infant children in the car while she went into a bar ... and forgot about them ... same result.

The woman should be tried for murder and executed. I do not believe that with all the publicity that this sort of thing has recieved in the past few years that it is possible for anyone to not realize the consequences of leaving children in a vehicles alone. Especially in the heat of summer with the windows rolled up. Ill tell you this, if I ever see a car that has a small child in it with the windows up in the middle of summer I could not walk by. I would wait a few minutes and if nobody came I would bust out some windows and then call the police.

You'd be surprised just how selfish and STUPID some people in Detroit are. This makes me furious, but I admit I am not surprised.

I wish I could get ahold of the mother of those children. I'd love to really hurt that stupid *.

This story really makes me mad.

Ditto guys...The limits of stupidity seems to be boundless. This woman should die. However, there are those that will find no fault and fight to set her free to breed again. People like this seem to be able to have kids by the numbers and other people who are responsible can't. I have been accused of "not being able to forgive" when things like this happen. TOUGH *!! Those babies are dead even before they had a chance to enjoy life. I'm sitting here watching my 3 year old grandaughter watch cartoons and thanking GOD that her parents are hard working, loving, caring and responsible.

Thats a sad sad thing, but it does seem as if no one wants to get involved.I feel angry that something like that was aloud to happen.Being a Peace Officer myself,I could tell you some that would make you sick to your stomache. It bothers me to see anyone hurt or loose something. But when it comes to children I have to fight myself not to get emotionly involved.

    Best Wishes.

I like the biblical style of punishment. If a man sets fire to another man's house, he shall be cast into the fire...etc.

Take the Detroit woman and lock her in a hothouse 'till she dies. While we're at it, take the Park Service pig that started the Colorado fire, and the out-of-work scumbag firefighter that started the Arizona fire, load them both in a plane and parachute-drop them gently into the middle of the raging infernos for which they are responsible. Let them experience the terror that all the animals who perished in the blazes must have experienced.

Seems to me a permit to breed would benifit our society. Background check and 10 day waiting period. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

As for punishment, I'm with Lowrider.

Is Mich. a death penalty state? If ever there was a crime that deserved the ultimate in punishment...

Nope. Michigan does not have capital punishment.

In this case, though, I hope she goes to prison where lots of inmates (mothers) WANT to see their kids but can't. I think they'll give this woman what she deserves because she HAD kids and killed them.

No matter the punishment, two kids are dead. That can't be reversed or paid for.

These stories come up every few years. And they never cease to revolt me.

I remember several years ago a mother left her 3 children in a locked van at Foxwoods casino in upstate NY. This story made me so utterly disgusted with the human race I was inconsolably pissed for days. And the aggrivating circumstances are even more disgusting.

She had saved up a month's worth of welfare and child support checks, and spent the entire hot summer afternoon and into the evening playing the slot machines.

The children were discovered dead sometime that night by security guards, who had eventually noticed that she was parked illegally in a handicapped spot.

Plus the van apparently had lapsed registration, insurance, inspection, and was slated for reposession. The woman herself had several warrants out on her for writing bad checks and credit card fraud.

I dont recall whether she was convicted or not, but I know this was back before the death penalty was reinstated in New York. Cuomo administration. Ugh....

All I can say is, hanging by piano wire wouldnt have been punishment enough for that....thing.

This woman pleaded guilty in Sept. 1999 to stealing 15,000 in jewelry from her employer. A warrant was issued for her arrest after she did not appear for sentencing in Jan. 2000. Also her driver's license was suspended 3 times and she had been barred from driving since 1999. To top that off she is pregnant! I just want to cry.

I agree the woman is gone. But cannot agree that 100 people didn't pass by this car and not notice, two kids in the car alone with the windows rolled up and did nothing. Take some responsibility!

You'd think with the advances in science and technology, with stem cell research, with mapping the human genome, that scientists would be able to isolate the "stupid" gene.

Everyone is required to take a test before getting a driver's license and a test before obtaining a concealed carry permit. Where then is the breeding license, and the test required to be a holder thereof?

I propose a series of tests before one is allowed to procreate, including but not limited to:

    1. Common Sense Battery
    2. Nurturting Instinct and Ability
    3. Propensity of offspring to attain gainful employment and provide
self support free from government and taxpayer aid
    4. Genetic and environmental propensity of offspring to be free
    from criminal tendencies

Each year when summer arrives, I see literally dozens of news reports about the dangers of leaving children in automobiles. And each year, several children die when left in automobiles. There is no excuse, unless "wilful ignorance" is ever allowed as a criminal defense.

I know it happens every year, the utter stupidity of people and the total disregard for human life, but there is more to this story than just the mother..
She was in a beauty shop, ask your wives... how many have been in a shop for 3 hours and not have one customer come in? How many, men and women, have been on a street with any kind of store on it and not have at least one person walk by?..
How many times have we walked by a car with kids in it..and did just that ...WALK BY?..

The point I am making is that society now seems to take "Its not my problem, I dont want to get involved" attitude..
Yes the woman needs to be punished, but we need to step back and think as well... Are we all so afraid of "getting involved" or maybe a lawsuit, that we would "walk on by?" How many drive by an accident scene? Ignored someone screaming?... These are only a few examples but it seems to me that in recent years everyone is so da**** afraid of getting sued that we "walk on by" and turn a deaf ear..
I am not jumping on anyone in here, but it seems to me that someone walked by those kids and seen it, if they had stopped, chances are those kids would be alive today..
There was a story in the paper about 6 months ago where a woman was beaten to death on a busy main street by her estranged husband, countless people stated they heard her screams, but did nothing.. There response to why they did nothing..."It wasnt my place, or I didnt want to get involved"

To those of you who think this woman should get the death penalty, well I for one think the death penalty is too good for her..

    Darwinism at its finest.

I feel bad that the kids died, but HOPEFULLY, this defective/dumb line of humans won't continue!

We've taken all the "risk" out of living, so now the stupid people breed and breed, without being killed off. :(

We need to quit passing stupid people laws like seat belts, helmet, etc so they die off.

Sad thing to see.............truly an ignorant person.
