New Handgun Decision

Decided I want to go back to a T/C Handgun and have decided on the Encore with 3 barrels. The 45-70 because in the Encore, it can be loaded to Ruger #1 pressures and use it for bear and moose, a 25-06 barrel because it will be used for caribou and the 25-06 will launch a 115 grain Nosler Partition at very respecable velocities even in a 15" barrel. And finally a 22-250 barrel for shooting fox and wolf with the 50 grain Barnes X bullet. What would other board members do differently for the area and animals hunted where they live?

45-70, Whoop! Man that will thump the heck out of you won't it. I have never had a Tompson or even shot one but I understand they have barrels in just about any caliber imaginable. Id probably go with 223 for small to med stuff, 30.06 for med to large, undecided on other...

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

45/70 from what I hear isn't as much rearward push, as it is a wrist twister. I have fired the 15" in 7mm-08 and it was very accurate with manageable recoil. You may want to look at the good and bad of the 7mm-08 and the 25-06 and compare them. Heavier bullet from the 08, and nosler partitions are also readily available in factory loads.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

The 45-70 barrel comes with a compensator.
