The Movie "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" is on PBS tonight at 8pm EST.
This is a great movie for anyone who has never seen it. It was made in 1944.

LT.Col. James Doolittle(Spencer Tracy)leads B-25's off the USS Hornet's deck on a 1942 mission to bomb Japan. With Van Johnson.

I just watched two and a half hours of this movie and thought it was more of a love story than an action movie as it was advertised. Don't know how it got three stars and an award for Special Effects.

Remember...Terrorist are attacking Civilians; Not the Government. Protect Yourself!

Read the book in 1965 then forty years later in 2005 flew over Tokyo thirty seconds +/- on the way to South Korea. Did not really get the same physical sensations of the Doolittle Raid but time to reminisce the raid accounts I read as a youngster.

Considering that the film was made about 70 years ago the special effects are simply amazing. I get a thrill every time I see the brief scene where a B-25 flies under the Bay Bridge. I believe that there are only about half a dozen of the Doolittle fliers still alive.

Saw the hanging on Utube of several Japs that tortured and killed B25
crewmen they captured.
Those were extremely brave airmen going into the dangerous unknown.

After an aborted T.O. we spent some scary seconds over Tokyo, departing Tachikawa for K16, ROK in an overloaded Globemaster. Not even the airplane wanted to go back.
