10mm for deer hunting?

Just looked at some power factor charts for the 10mm, there are a couple of factory loads that have more energy than a .357 magnum. Has anyone ever use this round for deer hunting?

Had a buddy who used his to hunt mountain goat. He had good luck. He dropped the first one on the first shot. The second one was hit in the leg on the first shot, tracked him and finished him with the second. I count that on aim, not power. Thats why I use a rifle. I hate wounding and tracking animals. And, the older I get, the less I like it! I'll leave the pistol hunting to you young bucks. My pistol is for self-defense. In another 15 years, it'll be a shotgun!

We're allowed to use .357 or larger must have a minimum six inch barrel. I have a Springfield Armory Omega 6" semi-auto, so it meets the legal requirements here. I knew it had some power, but didn't realize how much till I started comparing it to the .357 mag.

I killed a forkhorn whitetail with a Delta-Elite at about 45 yards the bullet went through both shoulders.I am not that good of a shot,he was just a very unlucky little buck.

Rembrandt, If I recall correctly, in Iowa, you cannot use a tapered handgun round. I do not know if the 10mm is tapered but I was told that 45 is (.003 or something like that). Something you may want to check into.twins

Tags.. what you BUY in addition to your hunting license so you can legally take a deer. Nor sure now but you used to have to declare in what "zone" you were going to hunt in as well as being told what sex animal you could kill. Also what season you were going to hunt in. Did I cover it or raise more? lol

32-20, hell that will get ya arrested, don't even ask about lights. NO rifles (except BP). Only shotguns (410 is a no no), bow, blackpowder and certain handgun calibers. And yes, there is guage restrictions for shotguns, min # of lbs pull weight on bows, no crossbows unless you are bonafide handicap and min/max black bowder calibers also. Bucks must also have at least one forked antler also.

Twins, the tapered you refer to actually means "necked" rifle cartidges, must be a straight wall case, so the 10mm would be legal.

Thanks Rembrandt. Do you know if the DNR has a list of "acceptable handgun calibers"?

The wording somewhat vague, just has to be 357 or larger and six inch barrel. I'm sure this was to eliminate .45acp's from being used.

The 10mm duplicates the ballistics of the old 38-40 which was a standard deer hunting roundtho by todays' standards a light one.
