What happened to the Galil?

Anybody noticed that everytime you see the Israeli troops on tv they've always got M16? I know they get a lot of our military stuff, but I thought the Galil was specifically designed for that dry, arrid type of environment.

The Galils they have to pay for. The M16s come free from Uncle Sam.

I asked the same question and was told they get AR's freebe from the USA. The Israeli rifle, being an AK takeoff and probably having superior reliability, resistance to inclement conditions, poor maintenance and sand is also a heavy, unhandy clunk at 10 pounds,10 ounces. It's logical to expect the Israelis to use the best weapons available since money is no object and they're in deadly conditions daily. But no 10 1/2 pound Galils or 8 1/2 pound Uzis are to be seen. All one sees are ARs. However,no one is willing to admit the AR for all its' faults is a better, handier, more effective weapon for mobile conditions. The annoying thing is that no one's admitting it.A 10+ pound rifle is good at the range or fixed positions but having lived with the 10 pound M-1 under physically taxing conditions, I can appreciate the rush to the 6-7 pound AR16.
