Wow! If you go on to read the analysis done by Fulton Armory they conclude that the steel of the rifle was at fault! Apparently, poor quality control by the manufacturer (Springfield Armory) resulted in a low grade steel.

Interesting. That shooter REALLY got lucky that he didn't lose his fingers or eyesight!!
