Personal best and help moving Mosin Nagant sight

I went to the range yesterday with my M44 Mosin-Nagant. I was using some of the lacquered steel jacket ammo that comes in the blue 20 round boxes, shooting benched at 50 yards. Usually I shoot high power at 100 but there was a match going on. Anyhow, most of my groups ran about 2 inches, but one was spectacular; all shots were touching! So here is a question. Why would one group be so much tighter than all the others with the same ammo, same gun, same distance, etc?

Also how does one shift the point of impact on the M44? The gun shoots to the left and the front sight needs moving. The whole sight hood seems to be dovetailed but I can't move it. The peg sight won't move either. Advice?

well the front site should move with no problem with a few taps from a brass mallet and punch all the ones i have moved have done so . as far as the grouping of shots go that could be a few things 1. could have just been you were more steady on them shots. 2. maybe the barrel had some corrosion in the rifling and after a few shots it cleaned the grooves and lands in the rifling and 3. may have been some corrosion in the chamber and after a few shots the cartridge chambered better for a tighter gas seal which would improve it well i am no expert but thats my 2 cents worth eithier way great shooting Lephus

Move the front sight to the left. There are some c-clamp type widgets sold by mil surplus dealers for moving front sights.
Careful tapping with a light hammer & brass punch should do it.

Try folding the bayonet out first. One of the other boards had a thread on this. Rumor has it that the sights wer regulated with the bayonet extended. If that dosn't do it than drift the front sight to the left (toward the group)

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

well i think enough have touched on how to adjust the sight. i just wanted to say that the mosin nagant is my favorite rifle. i have m39 B barrel that rocks. i can consistantly hit a half gallon coffee can at 220 yards. i can barely see it but i can hit. for the money you cant beat these things
