Well, the A3 has peep sights which turned me off to it. Preference you see. The regular 03 has standard sights with a very thin front blade, and is very accurate.

If you want a shooter, get the high number strait or C stock 03, or the Rem 03A3. The Mark 1 is a collector, the Smith Corona by virtue of its maker is a collector. There will be marks on all of these guns, they are old and hopefully stored well. Even if you get a regular 03, check to make sure its not a collector. You may still shoot it, but dont toss em in the bed of your truck.BTW, I saw a 03 like the one I own on GB, with a reserve of 1400.00, I dont know if the seller got it, but mine was in better shape than his was. So if you are getting a gun to butcher, please buy a Mauser, Or go ahead, chop away, mine will be worth more When you get it, (03), if it shoots real high at 100 yards, dont sweat it, dont grind it, they had diferent sights. Standared front sight gave it a battle sight zero of 347yds with the ladder down, if mem serves that is a "C" sight. for 100 yd work you need a "A" sight. And unless you were in the lottery, your order wont be prossesed until 1 May anyhoo.[This message has been edited by Varmintmist (edited 03-20-2002).]

Whats the thought on getting a Mark I and occasionally shooting in competitions. I want the accuracy and the desirable collectors piece. Is it ok to shoot a collector as long at is handled with kid gloves and babied to the extreme. Thanks mdcac
