Colorado School Forgoes National Anthem for World Anthem
Letter to the Editor - from the Rocky Mountain News

Following is a letter to the editor of the Denver Rocky Mountain News Concerning the singing of the World Anthem in place of our National Anthem:
Woeful 'World Anthem'
When we attended our daughter's Poudre High School graduation at Colorado State University's Moby Arena, we were offended to find the national anthem was not played.
In it's place was the woefully inadequate World Anthem. No matter how much the principal gushed over the privilege of being one of the first to hear this piece performed, we did not feel privileged or find it inspirational, heartwarming or moving.
This "song" should never have been performed in place of our national anthem! And then to ask us to stand to honor this song was too much. With this, the beginning of our Memorial Day weekend, a day our nation has set aside to remember those who have fought in its wars, especially those who have sacrificed their lives to defend this county, and in the face of Sept. 11 and our ongoing war against terrorism, this decision to replace our anthem with this so-called World Anthem was an insult!
At a time when we should remind these future leaders of the sacrifices made to make this country great, they are instead filled with an insipid little song about a world of peace and love.
Oh please! Though my daughter was required to stand with the other graduates, she was so disgusted with the lack of patriotism and sincerity, she ended up humming the national anthem to herself.

Funny, I'm amazed at how well some singers are talented. But, ONLY when I hear an old grizzled vet, or Kate Smith sing, "The Star Spangled Banner", and/or "God Bless America" do I get tears in my eyes of USA pride, and thankfulness.
Happy Bullet Holes!
